‘Today’ Co-Host Sheinelle Jones Mourns Husband Uche’s D3ath at 45 After Brave Battle With Brain Cancer
The TODAY Show family is reeling after heartbreaking news: Uche Ojeh, beloved husband of co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away at just 45 years old following a courageous, month-long fight against an aggressive brain cancer, glioblastoma.
On May 23rd, the TODAY studio was heavy with emotion as Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, Al Roker, Carson Daly, Dylan Dreyer, and Jenna Bush Hager gathered to share the devastating update with viewers. “We talk a lot about how this place is like a family,” Savannah began, her voice catching. “And this morning, we have some heartbreaking news about someone who is very D3ar to us here at TODAY.”
Sheinelle, known for her infectious laugh and radiant smile, stepped away from the show in December 2024 to deal with a private family health matter. Only now is the public learning that her husband of 17 years was fighting for his life against one of the most aggressive forms of brain cancer.
Uche and Sheinelle’s love story was one for the ages. It began at Northwestern University in the late 1990s, when Sheinelle, then a freshman, offered to show visiting high school senior Uche around campus. Eight years later, Uche proposed on that same campus—this time, in the middle of a rainstorm. The couple wed in 2007 in Sheinelle’s hometown of Philadelphia and went on to welcome three beautiful children: Cayenne, and twins Clara and Little Uche.
During the somber broadcast, the TODAY team reflected on Uche’s legacy—not just as a devoted husband, but as a father whose world revolved around his kids. “He loved those kids more than anything else in this world,” Craig Melvin shared, recalling their last golf outing together. “He was that dad on the sidelines at every soccer game, at all the concerts and recitals. He was that guy. And he was so proud.”
The pain of this loss is palpable, not just for Sheinelle and her children, but for everyone who had the privilege of knowing Uche Ojeh. Sheinelle expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering support from her TODAY Show family, who have rallied around her during this unimaginable time.
As the TODAY family—and millions of viewers—send their love and condolences to Sheinelle, Cayenne, Clara, Little Uche, and the entire Ojeh family, one thing is clear: Uche’s legacy of love, joy, and devotion to his family will never be forgotten.
