Four months to the day, weather anchor Dylan Dreyer has returned to Today’s third hour, and she’s now a mother of three boys.
On Monday, Today costars Al Roker, Craig Melvin and Sheinelle Jones gave Dylan a warm welcome after she returned from her maternity leave. In September 2021, the NBC meteorologist abruptly said goodbye to viewers when her water broke six weeks early. Shortly after, Dylan announced that she and her husband, Brian Fichera, had welcomed a healthy baby boy named Russell “Rusty” James on October 2. With that, their family grew to five members, including their two older sons, Calvin Bradley and Oliver George.
Throughout her maternity leave, the Misty the Cloud author shared heartwarming family moments with fans on Instagram. When the time came for her to go back to work, Dylan also brought her followers along for her highly anticipated return to Today.
“So many hugs!!!” she wrote on Instagram (you can look at a few of her photos below and the rest on her post here!) . “Oh how I missed my @todayshow family. It feels good to get right back into the swing of things!!”

After seeing Dylan’s return in a series of pictures (Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie are in there!), her fans took to the comments section to send her well wishes.
“SO GLAD you are back! You look magnificent as always! You sure were missed! ❤️,” one person wrote. “You look fantastic! So good to see you again! You shine! ❤️,” another added. “So happy to see you back today Dylan. You look fabulous!!! Missed you tons!!! Welcome back!! 😊,” a different fan said.
Dylan’s fellow coanchors were just as thrilled to have her sitting next to them again. Following their in-person reunion, Al expressed on his Instagram how “great” it was welcoming her back. Craig also shared heartfelt words about Dylan in his own Instagram post: “It’s good to have the band back together for @3rdhourtoday and @todayshow. @dylandreyernbc makes it all look so easy. Three boys. Demanding job. Slid back in the chair without missing a beat this morning. Proud of her since our weekend days.”
Although her comeback was a while in the making, Dylan still can’t believe how fast time flew by. “It feels like I haven’t left,” she said on the show. “Like all of a sudden, four months came and went. It’s done. The kids are at home taken care of, and I’m back.”
When asked what it feels like to be a family of five, Dylan surprised her costars by revealing that she can understand how the classic Christmas movie Home Alone happened. Luckily, she and Brian have made it a habit to do a roll call with Rusty, Cal and Ollie.
