The Chase star Shaun Wallace has opened up on the one thing that would make him call it quits from the ITV quiz show – another Chaser. When the popular gameshow began back in 2009, there were just Shaun and Mark Labbett as the Dark Destroyer and The Beast.
A year later, Anne Hegerty joined the cast as the Governess and then Paul Sinha joined two series later as the Sinnerman. There were no new additions for a further four years and then Jenny Ryan, also known as the Vixen, joined in series nine. That seemed to be enough Chasers until Darragh Ennis appeared on the show as a contestant. He did so well that viewers called for him to become a quizzer and it seems show bosses listened and he joined the panel in 2020 for series 13.

Now, Shaun has admitted that it would be “ridiculous” to have any more Chasers joining the show and if the panel were to expand any more than he would be gone.
He told the Sun, speaking on behalf of Gambling.com, the home of UK casino sites: “I can’t see any other chasers being appointed. And if it got too crowded, I’d probably leave.”
The quizzer added: “I think if they had one more, then I’d consider it [quitting]. Because it would look ridiculous to have too many chasers.”

The Chasers were all discovered by show bosses in various ways such as through high-level competitive quizzing, previous TV game show appearances and industry recommendations.
Mark appeared on University Challenge, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (winning £32,000), and won Only Connect in 2009. Meanwhile, Shaun proved his elite trivia status by winning Mastermind in 2004.
Anne was a former journalist who had been climbing the ranks of the World Quizzing Championships. She was already known to the production community after appearing on Mastermind in 1987 and acting as a successful “Phone a Friend” lifeline on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

Paul became a top-ranked player in the British quizzing circuit and was scouted by the show’s producers looking for a sharp, humorous personality to join the panel.
Jenny was actually part of the original team behind the show as she was hired as a question writer for The Chase pilot in 2009. Years later, Anne recommended her for an on-screen role.
