Vicky Pattison has spoken out against online abuse, declaring that “life is hard enough” after sharing a powerful message about the toll of cruel comments on women. The Strictly Come Dancing star reposted a video to her Instagram Story highlighting the relentless negativity faced by female celebrities online. The clip, originally shared by influencer Alex Light, featured a stream of shocking insults left under photos of stars including Megan Fox and Selena Gomez.

In her caption, Vicky wrote: “Women truly don’t stand a chance… Let’s support each other, man. Life is hard enough. Champion that sisterhood. Thank you, @alexlight_ldn, for always being a voice of reason amongst the sea of vitriol.” The video included real examples of abuse, with Fox targeted by comments such as: “Ew, gross, she ages like a banana left out in the sun.” Gomez, meanwhile, faced remarks like: “YUCK” and “Who tf is that? Is this the commercial for The Mask pt 3?”

Sharing her own thoughts alongside the clip, influencer Alex added: “It doesn’t matter how beautiful you are, how much money you have, how perfect your life looks, someone will still find something wrong with you.”

The former Geordie Shore favourite and Heart Radio presenter has long been open about her own experiences with online trolling — particularly the backlash she endured after deciding to freeze her eggs.

Speaking about the abuse, she said: “During my actual egg freezing process, I was pumped full of hormones & feeling vulnerable & allowed myself to be bullied from my own social media by the cruel & unnecessary taunts of people who didn’t agree with my decision.”

She continued: “I was repeatedly told that I should just have kids now, it didn’t matter if I wasn’t ready, I was a woman in my 30s — what else was I doing? I was also told I was messing with nature & god had made it very clear I shouldn’t have a baby.

“And finally I was told that if I hadn’t found a man who wanted to have a baby with me by now… the writing was on the wall.”

Vicky, 37, said she has since learned to block out the negativity: “But I won’t be bullied again. Being a woman is soooo tough – it kinda always feels like you’re in a race but you can’t see the finish line?” she said.

“Like we’re constantly rushing to find the perfect partner, the perfect job, the perfect house & all before we’re 30 so we can make sure we can have the ‘perfect’ family before our eggs are geriatric & our wombs are dusty.”

Hoping for a more inclusive and supportive future, she concluded: “And maybe while the scientists & powers that be are working on that – we can all concentrate on creating a world where women are able to do whatever they want with their bodies without fear of judgement & hate.”
