Zara McDermott publicly supports Sam Thompson after shock split

Zara McDermott, 28, showed her support for Sam Thompson, 32, and his social media career despite rumours that they’ve split.
Made in Chelsea alum Sam shared a new ad on Instagram on Friday, partnering with Heinz to show off their tomato soup. In the hilarious clip – which likely would have featured Zara before the split – Sam teamed up with his mum, Karen, and The Only Way is Essex star Pete Wicks, 37.
Despite her absence from the reel, fans noticed that Zara had liked the post, and debated what the action might mean. “Are you and Zara together?” One fan asked in the comment section. Others replied to argue whether she was still following, with another pointing out: “Yes she is and she has liked this post.”

Pete’s appearance in Sam’s video comes after claims that his breakup from Zara has altered their friendship dynamic. Pete is thought to be dating Irish model and former Love Island star Maura Higgins, having also been linked to his Strictly Come Dancing partner Jowita Przystał.
“Pete could tell for a long time things just weren’t the same between Sam and Zara, and Sam spoke to Pete a lot. He’s his best mate and he really values his opinions on things,” an insider told Closer magazine.
“Things are now a bit weird because, for a long time, Pete was the single one, so it’s a total switch-up. Sam really likes Maura, though, and sees that she makes Pete happy. It’s a complete role reversal.”
News of Zara and Sam’s rumoured split broke at the beginning of the year, after a source told the Mail Online: “Sam and Zara have ended their relationship. It’s been an incredibly difficult decision for them to part ways, they still care and have a lot of love for each other.
“But after a tough year of working hard at their romance, they have split and will be focusing on their individual careers going forward into 2025. There has been no scandal or fallout between them, it’s just the result of a difficult year, where they both had to spend a lot of time focused on their own projects.”
Soon after the shock rumours, an insider close to the former couple opened up about why Zara and Sam broke up. “Zara never felt like she was the priority with Sam. He always seemed to find someone or something to put before her,” one source told The Sun, with another adding that while Zara loved Sam, there were still issues in their relationship.
“They are both selfish in their own right and want to be successful in business as individuals – but of course that comes at a price,” they said, adding: “Sam is very childish – it’s even become a part of his ‘showbiz persona’ – but Zara feels as though she’s getting older and wants to start being taken more seriously.”
Along with the differing personalities, the insider said Zara and Sam had different life goals, with Zara looking to move onto the next step while Sam was content as things were. They claimed that Zara was keen to start a family soon, while Sam felt they were still a bit young for kids and should remain focused on work for now.
