The Yorkshire Vet aired a huge loss but its stars have opened up on an exciting update.The Channel 5 series paid a visit to Cannon Hall Farm in Barnsley last month where the hitseries met brothers Rob and Dave and their Shire horse stallion Herkules.
Rob called him the “horse of our lifetime” and had plans to help the UK’s dwindling Shire horse population which is considered a rare breed with less than 1,500 nationwide. But they took to social media to share that their “world had been turned upside down” as Herkules sadly d!ed of Colic. Choking up, Rob said: “Heartbroken’s an easy word but we are. I never thought we’d have an animal like him here on our farm is a blow.

“To see him trotting down the yard at spring time and to think we’ll never see that again is really upsetting. He was three-years-old, he had his whole life ahead of him…it’s left a massive void in all of our lives.”
But a couple of weeks later, they called vet Shona Searson to visit Cannon Hall Farm as they suspected two of their horses could be pregnant.
“He was the best horse we’ve ever really produced and we’re just hoping he’s got these girls in foal. If he has, his legacy will live on”, Rob commented.
And while it took some work using a rectal probe to make sure, Shona was thrilled to give the news that both horses were pregnant.

“We had a massive blow with Herkules but this is great news”, Dave remarked as Shona commented: “He’s got two babies on the way.”
Rob added: “I can shut my eyes now and imagine two little grey foals running about in that field next summer and that’s something to hold onto and look forward to.”
The Yorkshire Vet returned to Cannon Hall Farm eight months later as Silver had given birth to a filly overnight, with Brooke welcoming her own foal a week later.
Rob remarked: “Seeing this foal reminds me of its dad, she’s got a look of Hercules.”
Shona later commented: “Seeing newborns is just one of the best parts of the job and especially to have such a beautiful rare breed.”
