Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden was back in hospital just hours after supporting her colleagues in Blackpool this weekend. The professional dancer was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023, and subsequently underwent a single mastectomy and chemotherapy treatment.
Now, she is undergoing further treatment as she shared a video on her Instagram, showing her with a drop in her arm. She was receiving a bone infusion and a monthly injection at Good Hope Hospital in Birmingham. In a voiceover, she stated: “Is it easy? No. Do I like it? No. I don’t. But do I do it? Yeah, I do.” In another video during her infusion, Amy expressed her joy at rejoining her colleagues for Strictly Come Dancing’s special Blackpool show. She said that it was “so good to be back” after going to support her co-stars. In the video, Amy said: “Good morning everybody, what a weekend in Blackpool! It was so good to be back and everyone was just absolutely phenomenal.”
She then shared a highlight from her latest hospital appointment – a teddy bear plaster used to secure her infusion tubes on her arm.
Amy shared: “Don’t look now if you’re a little bit squeamish but look I got little teddy bears today.” She went on to say: “I thought this weekend was amazing and it was so good to be back….Starting the week with a big smile and positivity.”
Supporters expressed their encouragement in the comments, penning: “Wishing you all the best,” and “aww, Amy, bless you! Stay strong, my Strictly queen!”
Posting a snapshot from her dressing room at Strictly this weekend, Amy revealed her longing to dance ‘so badly’ but was exercising ‘patience’ and was simply thankful to be there to show her support.
She stated: “So excited to be back supporting the couples tonight! It’s been three years since I’ve been part of the @bbcstrictly Blackpool Show! I wanna dance so badly, but just need to be patient! Grateful to be here.”
She made a triumphant return to the dance floor in 2004 after doctors declared there was ‘no evidence of disease’, but shortly after leaving the competition with Apprentice star Thomas Skinner this year, she announced the need for a second mastectomy.
The 35-year-old confirmed that this procedure wasn’t to treat a new cancer, but was a decision made in consultation with her medical team.
