Prince Harry has made a surprise public appearance this week close to his Montecito mansion. The Duke of Sussex spent a day with One805, a non-profit organisation that helps to support the mental health of first responders in the Santa Barbara County, to share his advice and wisdom about mental health.

The duke was all smiles at the event, which he attended without his wife Meghan Markle. He took part in an hour-long “lively” discussion where he spoke with first responders, and those who support them, about trauma, pressure and mental wellness. It is believed to be something he feels strongly about.

A photograph of the duke, 41, at the event was shared online by One805. They wrote: “One805 was proud to bring together 49 Peer Support team members from law enforcement agencies across Santa Barbara County, including the County Sheriff’s Office and Santa Maria, Lompoc, Guadalupe and Santa Barbara Police Departments, for a day dedicated to connection, learning and mental wellness.

“A highlight of the hugely successful day was an hour-long, lively and heartfelt discussion with Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex.

“A veteran himself, and someone who has dedicated much of his work to mental wellness, his insights, openness and empathy were enthusiastically received by the group.

“Peer Support teams play an extraordinary role. They are, in many ways, the first responders to our first responders — trusted colleagues who are there when the pressures and trauma of the job become too much to carry alone. One805 is committed to working even more closely with these teams as we continue to strengthen mental wellness support for every First Responder in Santa Barbara County.”

One805 was set up to support the mental wellbeing of first-responders in Santa Barbara County.

They support responders from fire, police and emergency medical services.

The organisation raises funds that help to provide mental wellness support, essential equipment and resources for these first responders.
