Ed Balls and Susanna Reid shared that the Prime Minister has made an ‘irreparable’ move.

Good Morning Britain halted for a political update on Monday morning as presenters Ed Balls and Susanna Reid questioned reporter Louisa James about the latest headlines. The journalist was live from outside 10 Downing Street when she delivered a huge blow to Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

 

It comes as Starmer is expected to say that the cost of living is at the forefront of his mind as Britain faces a potential energy crisis brought on by conflict in the Middle East. Ed asked: “Has his relationship with Donald Trump broken down irreparably?” Louisa replied: “That is a perfect example of how many challenges Sir Keir Starmer is facing on so many fronts. On the morning that he wants to talk about the cost of living and reassure people, we have these images coming out of Iran of burning oil depots, which have been hit by Israel and the US over the weekend. This means that the price of oil is surging to its highest level in four years.”

Louisa then pointed out that the last time fuel prices shot up was when Russia invaded Ukraine four years ago. At that time, the ITV reporter said, it cost over £100 to fill up a typical family car.

She added: “That then fed through to prices in supermarkets and other shops and to our energy bills and so on.

“That is something that Keir Starmer says people should be ‘rightly worried about’ this time as well.”

 

In a recent statement, the leading politician said: “I know that people are worried sick for friends and family… That’s why we’re working round the clock to keep British citizens safe.

“But people are also rightly worrying about what this means for life at home – their bills, their jobs, their communities.

“No matter the headwinds, supporting working people and their families with the cost of living is always top of my mind.”

Louisa then said: “But the question is, how much the government can do and how much it can afford to do. The big variable really is how long the conflict in the Middle East will go on.”
