Former Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher and his wife Liz made an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine on Thursday (February 13), where they gave viewers a glimpse into the lambing process at their family farm in Cheshire.

Kelvin, who has swapped acting for farming in the Peak District, along with Liz and their four children, admitted that life on the farm isn’t always straightforward.

In a pre-recorded video from their farm, Liz confessed that she and Kelvin often end up arguing when trying to herd their sheep, describing the task as stressful due to the animals’ reluctance to follow instructions.

As Kelvin hopped onto the quad bike to gather the flock, Liz explained: “You’ll always have an argument when herding sheep, we’re told you’re not real farmers if you don’t.”

She also shared that Kelvin tends to tease her about her driving skills whenever she takes a turn on the four-wheeler,

Despite these challenges, the couple managed to successfully guide their sheep into an enclosure for weighing. Those showing a weight gain were then moved onto the next stage of the process.

In a live segment from their farm, they lined up their woolly animals suspected of being pregnant. Kelvin offered insight to Scottish presenter Lorraine on what would be the “ideal scenario” in sheep farming.

He pointed out that a sheep carrying “doubles” comes with much less “risk”. Alongside his wife, they hoped for their sheep to have at least two lambs each, ensuring an “easy life” for themselves.

Kelvin further explained to viewers the coding system used on their farm. Sheep expecting twins are marked in blue, single-lamb pregnancies in green, and those with triplets in red, indicating “for danger” due to the increased risk.

Liz shared with the audience the tension involved in the systematic process, saying: “It’s the most nail biting scan of our lives,” as they prepared to have their first sheep scanned live on-air.

The couple’s joy was evident when they discovered their first sheep was pregnant with twins, prompting them to enthusiastically celebrate: “Yes, twins.”

However, the mood slightly shifted when the next sheep was found to be expecting a single lamb, to which Lorraine reassuringly responded: “That’s alright though, it’s better than triplets.”
