EastEnders fans are convinced a big return is on the way on the BBC soap, after a scene involving Lauren Branning and a snap of some of the cast away from filming

There could be some big scenes ahead on EastEnders, with fans predicting a major return on the BBC soap.
Lauren Branning’s scenes in recent episodes left fans convinced that a former character was on the way back to Walford ahead of the 40th anniversary episode. A cast snap away from filming only fuelled the rumours further, leaving fans thrilled and hopeful.
Fans are sure Max Branning, played by actor Jake Wood, could finally be returning to the BBC soap after four years away. Jake was written out of the show in 2021, with fans fuming over the decision.
Now actor Jake has sparked return rumours just as storylines teased a comeback too. Lauren has been struggling in recent weeks and ahead of the 40th anniversary episodes, fans are sure she might reach out to her father who has been AWOL ever since he fled with his young granddaughter Abi.
Pregnant Lauren has been battling a pain k!ller addiction, and recently she was blamed over the attack on Cindy Beale on Christmas Day. She’s one of the many suspects, while the attacker is yet to be identified.
Amid her struggles she’s had constant rows with partner Peter Beale, and her recent arrest left her trying to prove her innocence. So could Max make his big return to be there for his daughter?

Lauren mentioned her dad and a past storyline with Peter this week, while she also featured in scenes that referenced the character over Christmas. Jake also featured in a snap away from the show posted on social media, enjoying a gathering with some of his co-stars and a newer star of the show.
Fans now think it’s all a massive hint that Jake could be reprising his role on the show in time for the 40th anniversary episodes. Taking to social media, one fan posted: “Knew she would blame Lauren, guess that is why Max comes back?”
A second fan said: “Empty swing, needs another Branning to fill it. Time for a dad return?” A third viewer posted: “Max returning could be the thing that breaks Linda once and for all and I’m petrified.”
Another theory read: “Nah he’s been hanging out with the EastEnders crew too much, MAX IS COMING BACK,” as a further comment said: “Love the max mention bring him back pls.” One theory read: “Isn’t it high time that Max comes back? Lauren’s in deep trouble, Annie neglected and raised by a drunk, Sonia imprisoned, Bianca kidnapped, Stacey up for a maternity exit.”
