Question Time viewers fume ‘why do I pay licence fee’ over Fiona Bruce ‘bias’
BBC Question Time viewers have criticised the latest instalment of the political programme, hosted by Fiona Bruce.

Why Do We Even Pay You?’ BBC Question Time in Chaos as Furious Viewers Slam Fiona Bruce’s ‘Blatant Bias’
BBC viewers erupted in anger last night as Question Time host Fiona Bruce faced a wave of backlash for what many called her “open political bias” during the latest episode of the long-running political debate show.
The programme, broadcast on Thursday, November 6, saw Bruce repeatedly accused of siding with Labour critics while dodging similar scrutiny of Conservative failures — sparking a furious response online.
‘BBC or GB News 2?’ — Viewers Rage Over Fiona Bruce
During one fiery exchange, Bruce grilled columnist Tim Stanley with the question:
“Should Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves resign if they raise taxes and break their manifesto commitment?”
But the tone of her delivery left many fuming. Social media exploded within minutes, with #FionaBruce and #BBCBias trending on X (formerly Twitter).
One furious viewer wrote:
“Sorry, what pardon? Did Fiona Bruce ever ask questions like this when Boris Johnson or Rishi Sunak broke their promises? Total bias.”
Another fumed:
“Fiona Bruce couldn’t show her Conservative allegiance more if she wore a blue rosette. Why am I paying a licence fee for this propaganda?”
A third demanded outright reform of the broadcaster:
“BBC should rename itself GB News 2. The difference is barely visible now. People are sick of paying to be lectured.”

Public Anger Boils Over
The outrage didn’t stop there. Dozens of frustrated taxpayers voiced fury that their licence fees fund what they see as “a political machine masquerading as journalism.”
“Every week it’s the same,” one viewer posted. “Fiona interrupts guests she doesn’t like, nods along to the Tories, then calls it balance. It’s insulting.”
And in one viral clip, a member of the live audience shouted:
“You edit, you spin, and you always side with the establishment. You are part of the problem!”
The crowd reportedly erupted into applause — and Bruce, momentarily stunned, struggled to regain control of the discussion.
Another viewer summed up the national mood bluntly:
“BBC’s credibility is dead. People are struggling with bills, and this is what our £169 licence fee pays for — bias and spin.”
Bruce Under Fire for Past Allegations
This isn’t the first time Fiona Bruce has faced accusations of partiality.
In 2023, the BBC was forced to issue a statement defending her after claims that her husband, Nigel Sharrocks, had links to the Conservative Party.
At the time, the broadcaster insisted:
“Fiona Bruce’s opinions are not defined by her husband, and she remains impartial in her role.”
However, critics argue the defence “missed the point.” One media analyst told GB News:
“The issue isn’t her husband’s career — it’s how she behaves on air. The public sees tone, timing, and attitude. They know when they’re being talked down to.”
A Pattern of Favouritism?
This week’s episode has reignited debate about whether the BBC can truly remain politically neutral in today’s polarised Britain.
Political commentator Rachel Warren said:
“The BBC is terrified of being accused of liberal bias — so it’s overcompensating by platforming right-wing voices and attacking Starmer. The pendulum has swung too far the other way.”
Meanwhile, others argue Bruce has simply “lost control of the format.”
“Question Time used to be a national debate,” one former BBC insider told The Express. “Now it’s a gladiator pit — and Fiona’s playing referee, judge, and cheerleader all at once.”
‘A Crisis of Trust’
What began as a television spat has now become a symbol of Britain’s growing mistrust in its public institutions.
Furious taxpayers are now questioning why they should fund a service that, in their view, no longer represents them.
“We’re forced to pay for a channel that mocks us,” said one viewer. “It’s the establishment protecting itself — and people have had enough.”
Calls are growing for a parliamentary review of the BBC’s political neutrality, as trust in public broadcasting continues to erode.
As one social media user summed it up:
“The BBC doesn’t speak for Britain anymore. It speaks for itself.”
