As it turns out, Kelly Clarkson doesn’t call the shots on The Kelly Clarkson Show: Her daughter does!
During the April 2 episode of Clarkson’s award-winning daytime talk show, the star gave her 10-year-old daughter River a vital behind-the-scenes role: That of mini-producer! So, during the episode, River did exactly what was expected of her. She controlled the show’s flow from behind the camera and looked the part, too. (“Oh my God, you have a mic and everything; you’re so fancy!” Clarkson giddily told her.)
River really did look the part. She walked out next to her mom and showed off her official-looking clipboard, microphone, and producer-quality sweatshirt. She looked adorable, as her kids usually do on the show.
Our favorite part was when the former Voice Coach was interviewing Whitney Cummings, and River kept calling for her mom to go to break. Clarkson thought her daughter was just saying, “Mommy needs a break,” but no, the mini-producer was trying to cut to commercial.
Such a sassy move!

“Whatever!” Clarkson said as she figured out what River was trying to do. “I thought she said, ‘Mommy needs a break,’ and I thought, ‘That’s so kind.’ But no, she’s telling me that I need to go to break! That’s cool, that’s cool.”
River may be better equipped to produce the show than her mom initially thought!
Clarkson summed it up best: “You give her a little bit of power and she goes wild!”
We’re sure parents everywhere can agree with that.

March 20 marked a significant milestone for The Kelly Clarkson Show — its 1,000th episode! Of course, Clarkson put everything in perspective for viewers as she talked about the incredible run the show’s had for six years — and counting — in the video embedded above.
“Our show premiered on September 9, 2019 with the help of some great friends. Over the next five-and-a-half years, we have made 999 episodes,” she recalled. “TKCS has weathered a pandemic and its host dealing with an eye patch and taken its audience everywhere from Montana to Australia, even moving the show from Los Angeles to New York City.”
It’s almost like Clarkson couldn’t believe it’s been 1,000 episodes!
“Everybody has done such an incredible job. We started with the intention of making connections and bringing people together, and it feels like we’ve been doing just that. And even though I still can’t cook — sorry, kids! Thank you, Postmates! — I’m grateful to everyone who has been a part of this journey. It has been such a cool time.”
