Coronation Street favourite Beverley Callard has issued an emotional cancer update as she prepares to go back to work amid her gruelling breast cancer battle. Last month, the ITV star announced that she was going in for a “big operation” where she had her lymph nodes removed as a precautionary measure to make sure the cancer hadn’t spread. Now, the soap star has revealed that she is returning to work after taking a few weeks off to recover and recuperate from the procedure.

On Wednesday (March 4), the 68-year-old actor told fans: “I have to go back to work on Sunday and Monday (March 8 and 9), it’s just for two days, that’s all”. Callard added that she is feeling incredibly nervous about returning to work because it is a red-carpet event, which will mean posing for pictures just weeks after going under the knife.

She went on: “It’s to do promotion for a job that I filmed a few months ago last year. It’s a bit of a red carpet do with lots of photos, and anybody who knows me knows I hate those things.”

“I love my job, I love learning lines, I love creating a character, but standing and posing on a red carpet is my worst nightmare. But now, it’s even worse because I feel lobsided. I’ve just had a lady come to alter a dress that I’m thinking of wearing and try and disguise what I’m going through at the moment. So, I’m even more nervous about it.”

Before she signed off the video, she revealed that she has another hospital appointment booked in which will explain whether she will need further operations. Beverly added: “The other thing is I’ve got the hospital appointment in the morning, and I’ll find out if I’ll have to have another procedure, so I’ll know more about what’s to come then.”

The soap star thanked her loyal legion of followers for their continued support and kind messages after she indulged in a well-deserved break. She gushed: “I’ve not posted for the last couple of days because, to be honest, I’m just really tired.

“But a lot of your messages have said to take a bit of time off, and that’s what I’ve done. It was nice for me and John to have some time because it gets to him just as much as me.”

It didn’t take long before viewers flocked to the comments to pass on their well wishes online, with one user penning: “Always a pleasure to see you Beverley Callard [heart emoji]. You are brave, strong, and honest. You have the best support with John by your side, always sending love & strength.”

Another agreed: “Your amazing going through this and telling your story to help other people. Sending you lots of love and strength,” as a third echoed: “Good luck for tomorrow. Big hugs [heart emoji].”
