Karen Carney is said to have been seen ‘crying’ by Strictly Come Dancing viewers as she reacted to the show’s latest elimination.
The former footballer had a spooktacular night in the ballroom on Saturday (November 1) after she made it through to week six of the competition alongside professional dance partner Carlos Gu.
The weekend marked the BBC One dance show’s Halloween special, and Karen and Carlos were among the 10 remaining couples donning the best costumes, hair and makeup and hoping to deliver a spine-tingling performance.
The show opened with a skit featuring presenters Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, who are set to leave the show this year, running away from the celebrity dancers, who had turned into zombies.
But it wasn’t until later in the night that former Lioness Karen and dancer Carlos took to the dance floor with their Peaky Blinders-inspired Argentine tango to Red Right Hand by Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds.
The pair impressed the judges, as they received a near-perfect 38 points for their routine, putting them just behind actor Lewis Cope and his professional partner Katya Jones who achieved the first 40 of the 2025 series.
It was then on Sunday (November 2) during the latest results show that Karen and Carlos were confirmed to be safe for another week, securing their place in the mid-way point of Strictly’s 2025 series.
However, it didn’t stop both Karen and Carlos being upset by the latest dance-off results, with Ellie Goldstein and Vito Coppola becoming the fifth couple to be eliminated from the contest after going up against Balvinder Sopal and Julian Caillon.
Both pairs reprised their routines in the dance-off, with Ellie and Vito performing a Tango to Lady Gaga’s Abracadabra, while EastEnders star Balvinder and Julian delivered a Rumba to Shakespears Sister’s Stay, before the judges delivered a unanimous verdict.
Following Ellie and Vito’s moving exit, Karen took to Instagram with pictures of her saying her goodbyes to the leaving duo, as well as a picture from their latest performance.

Alongside the post, the sportswoman-turned-pundit and podcast host wrote: “It’s tough to see anyone leave but this week was so hard [face holding back tears emoji].
“@elliejg16_zebedeemodel you light up every room you’re in and make me and everyone smile so much when you are around. I think the world of you and you should be so incredibly proud of yourself. We’re gonna miss team cheeky so much, you and @vitocoppola are the best.”
And fans were quick to respond. @nefeli_iakovou2010 said: “I saw you crying and tbh I can’t blame you I was a mess Vito’s speech to Ellie was the sweetest/cutest thing I have ever seen I’m also gonna miss team cheeky.” @aimeesmayo commented: “She was so good. Having been a teacher to pupils with DS seeing @elliejg16_zebedeemodel perform with such skill and personality made my heart so happy. You are such an incredible dancer and I love your partnership with @gkx_carlos sending good luck hugs.”
