It seemed an odd choice, given how derided her own culinary efforts have been, and it turned out it wasn’t even original. Her father-in-law King Charles has also appeared on the show back in 2018. In one of her most blatant copycat moves to date, she shamelessly offered her opinion when contestants were challenged to transform a staple ingredient into a dish “fit for a duchess”. While Meghan had one dish created in her honour eight years ago, contestants were asked to cater a full royal reception for Charles in the Northern Territory. The episode was filmed in Darwin during a royal tour, and, unlike Meghan, they moved the entire show for him, featuring a temporary outdoor kitchen setup for the chefs to work in.

Celebrity chef Khanah Ong, who was a contestant on the show, described cooking for the now-monarch, saying the experience was “insane”.
Speaking on Pedestrian TV he said: “It wasn’t just cooking for him; it was a full-service challenge. And so you need to make amazing quality, royal quality food.
“But at the same time, you need to do it in bulk, which means that you need to do it at volume, which is hard enough as it is.
“I just remember the whole time being like, are we able to actually send this many dishes out and have it at a quality that we were happy with? I think our team won that challenge. So we did a really good job.

Despite the best efforts of contestants, he did not eat any of the food prepared by them on camera, as he had to adhere to royal security and health protocols.
While he chatted graciously with the cooks and viewed their dishes, he was reportedly given a “doggy bag” to take with him instead.
It was his wife, the now Queen Camilla – a massive fan of the show – who helped convince Clarence House to allow her husband to participate.
The then Prince of Wales also wanted to boost the profile of the Northern Territory, Aboriginal communities, and the Royal Flying Doctor Service with his appearance.
