Eamonn Holmes gives ‘horrendous’ health update after being left wheelchair-bound

Eammon Holmes opened up about his ongoing health struggles, including being confined to a wheelchair. The GB News presenter, 66, has endured a string of health problems over the last few years and has now described life in a wheelchair as “horrendous”. In 2021, Eamonn experienced severe back pain which he said he stemmed from a “trapped sciatic nerve”, forcing him to rely on crutches and a walking stick to help him get around.
The following year, he underwent spinal surgery after a dislocated pelvis caused three slipped discs. The Northern Irish broadcaster had hoped the procedure would relieve the pressure on his sciatic nerve, however, complications during surgery left him largely unable to walk unaided. Now relying on a wheelchair and mobility scooter as well as daily support from carers, Eamonn admitted he is in constant pain.
He made the confession on Scott Wright’s podcast, Session7, after he was asked: “What does the future hold for Eamonn Holmes?”
The former This Morning host responded: “I don’t know, society’s ageist, I’m sick, I’m in a wheelchair, that’s been horrendous to deal with for two years. Certainly, I don’t think TV wants to know you… I can’t get up. I need help getting out of this chair. I have to have carers throughout the day.
“But once I’m sitting down, I can do everything. I understand my job, I understand what I’m supposed to do. But I understand it’s tough for people to deal with you.”
Eamonn, who split from Ruth Langsford after 14 years of marriage in 2024, spoke about the barriers he faces as a disabled person, arguing that wheelchair users are still not adequately supported in public spaces.

He continued: “When you’re disabled, it’s unbelievable how society… whether it’s a theatre, a restaurant or a cinema.
“The cinema never ceases to amaze me. I love the cinema, but when you go to the cinema and you’re disabled, you get two choices: you’re either at the very, very, very back and beyond of the cinema, or you’re right at the very front.
“And you think to yourself, why is this? Why does it have to be one or the other like that?”
Eamonn added: “Try and get a train in a wheelchair and carry a bag. It’s a whole area that we just don’t take enough care of, and we’re not told to take enough care of and it’s ghastly. You don’t think it’s going to go wrong, then it goes wrong.”
He concluded: “One thing you do find out over all is your health is your wealth.”
