The Rings Of Power is officially set to return for a third season, with fans anticipating a significant plot twist. The series, a spin-off of J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, is set millennia before the events of the original novel and explores the key happenings of Middle-earth’s Second Age.
Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed today (Thursday, February 13) that the show will be back for a third season following the airing of its second instalment on Prime Video last fall.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, viewers can expect a major twist in the upcoming season. The story will leap forward several years after season two, featuring Sauron crafting the iconic One Ring.
A plot teaser reveals: “Jumping forward several years from the events of season 2, season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.”
The War of the Elves unfolded during J. R. R. Tolkien’s Second Age, marking the inaugural major battle in Middle-earth against Sauron (Charlie Vickers), preceding the epic conflict showcased in the Lord of the Rings films, specifically the War of the Last Alliance.
Charlotte Brändström is set to make a comeback as executive producer and director for season three, along with Sanaa Hamri who returns to the director’s chair. Newcomer to the series, Director Stefan Schwartz will also take part.

Sanaa Hamri, known for her work on The Wheel of Time and experienced from directing three episodes in the second season, returns, while Stefan Schwartz, with credits like The Boys and The Walking Dead, is slated to direct some episodes in the upcoming season.
The finale of season two featured Sauron’s killing spree against key characters and the Elves uniting for a showdown with the Dark Lord.
Viewers were also treated to the revelation that The Stranger is actually Gandalf, confirming speculations fans held throughout both seasons. Amazon MGM Studios boasts that The Rings of Power’s maiden season remains the most significant TV debut ever on Prime Video, with its sophomore season becoming the platform’s most-watched returning season based on hours viewed.

Globally, the show has attracted 170 million viewers and serves as one of the most effective catalysts for new Prime membership subscriptions.
The Rings of Power is brought to life by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. They are accompanied by executive producers Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Kate Hazell, and executive producer-director Charlotte Brandstrom.
Matthew Penry-Davey serves as the producer while Ally O’Leary, Tim Keene, and Andrew Lee join the team as co-producers.
