During a recent episode of his On The Sofa podcast, Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd recounted a surprisingly tense moment on set that nearly turned into a real accident. While filming a scene in which his long-running character David Platt was cutting someone’s hair—a task David has done on-screen for two decades—Jack revealed that he came dangerously close to actually snipping off a co-star’s hair. Though he’s had years of practice pretending to be a hairdresser, Jack admitted that mimicking the motions without making real contact is a skill that requires precision and intense focus. This particular scene nearly went wrong, reminding him (and his audience) how even seemingly harmless scenes can carry unexpected risks. His candid reflection was equal parts humorous and eye-opening, offering a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes challenges actors face while keeping their performances authentic and their colleagues safe.
“They’re real scissors, because they’re scissors from whichever makeup artist or supervisor is on that unit. So they just give me their scissors that are out of their bag.
“Usually I go to the back of the person of whoever is there, I take a section and go all the way down the hair using two fingers with the hair in there, and I almost, almost hit the hair but I don’t.”

While Shepherd has never made a slip himself, he has revealed that his co-star Samia Longchambon, who plays Maria Windass, caused filming to halt when she came dangerously close to cutting Kate Ford’s (Tracey Barlow) hair for real.
“Samia nearly cut Kate Ford’s fringe off,” he said. “She got her full fringe in her fingers and she almost went down.
“Kate stopped the take and went, ‘Samia, Samia, wait! What are you doing?!'”

Shepherd was recently crowned the winner of Celebrity Big Brother‘s 2025 series, beating follow finalists Chris Hughes, Chesney Hawkes, Donna Preston, JoJo Siwa and Danny Beard.
“I can’t believe it, I am blown away I didn’t expect it,” he said after his triumph. “I thought I was a shoo-in for maybe fifth. As people were disappearing I thought ‘surely not’.
“I just figured that I might annoy a few people and they might not quite know how to work me out and then after a while they changed opinions and, yeah, I guess I was liked by the end.”
