Strictly Come Dancing star Annabel Croft was touched upon discovering her late husband had given his blessing to their daughter’s forthcoming nuptials – two years following his passing. The 59-year-old former professional tennis star has recently discovered that Mel Coleman – who passed away in May 2023, eight weeks after receiving a stage three cancer diagnosis – had granted Felix McCorquodale, a relative of Princess Diana’s stepmother Raine Spencer, his consent to wed his 27-year-old daughter Lily.

Annabel revealed to the Daily Mail newspaper’s Eden Confidential column: “He gave permission to my youngest daughter Lily’s boyfriend – they just got engaged, actually.

“Felix told me the other day that one of the things Mel said to him was, ‘You definitely have my permission to marry Lily.’”

The former British number one tennis ace featured on Strictly Come Dancing mere months following her husband’s passing.

Annabel – who was knocked out from the Latin and Ballroom dancing contest during the semi-final – participated in the programme to help process her bereavement.

In November 2024, the celebrity – who was partnered with 38 year old professional dancer Johannes Radebe on the programme – revealed to The Sunday Post: “When people ask why I did Strictly so soon after, I think, ‘Gosh, why would I not say yes?’ What was I going to do – come back to an empty house and cry all evening?

“I’ve subsequently realised how helpful it was to get up every day instead of sitting in this house, which my husband built.

“Coming back to a house that used to be full of life, full of Mel, but was suddenly empty, was terrifying. I was in grief and crying every day, so to have that focus of doing something positive and distracting the brain was really an incredibly healing process, and I’m very grateful I had the opportunity.

“I’m not sure how I would have got through that winter without it, to be honest.”

Mel – who worked as a professional yachtsman and investment banker – wed Annabel in 1993, and they went on to welcome daughters Amber and Lily, as well as a son called Charlie.

Their eldest daughter welcomed a boy, Arlo, in October, and Charlie wed Boodles Heiress Honour Wainwright in August.

When she announced her exit from Strictly Come Dancing, Dani described herself as “heartbroken” to leave the show. She said in a statement: “I had a fall on Friday in rehearsals and landed funny.

“I thought I had rolled my foot but it swelled up badly over the weekend. And after an MRI scan yesterday, it turns out I have fractured my ankle.”

However, a few weeks on and Dani has now issued an update on how she is doing.

“I saw the physio yesterday… he was pulling my foot backwards, bending it backwards and forwards and showing me some exercises,” she told mum Jo on her Live and Let Dyers podcast.

Dani went on: “You know when you’re in pain and they’re trying to speak to you to distract you – I was like: ‘I really can’t speak right now.’ It just needs stretching because it’s stiff and hasn’t got 1% of stability in it.”

Dani ‘teary’ when she returned to show

Dani also spoke about whether or not a Strictly return could be on the cards, after she visited the studio recently to watch the live show.

Revealing it was a bittersweet experience to be there, Dani admitted: “I went and watched Strictly and everyone was a bit like: ‘Are you sure? Are you going to be alright going to watch it?’

“And it was the best thing I could’ve done, it was so good seeing everyone again… don’t get me wrong, when I walked in I got a bit teary but just at the beginning.”

Dani ‘confirmed’ for next year’s series

It comes after Dani’s friend Vicky Pattison – who is taking part in this year’s series – appeared to confirm that Dani is returning to Strictly next year.

Taking to her Instagram after the show aired last month, Dani shared a slew of snaps of her at the Strictly live show with pals, including Vicky and her pro partner Kai Widdrington.

However, in the comments section of Dani’s post, current 2025 star Vicky appeared to let slip that Dani is appearing on the 2026 Strictly series. She wrote: “Love you so much mate my girl!!! I will be front row every week next year watching you SMASH IT.”

A huge BBC drama is set to announce its comeback within a matter of days. Fans have been waiting on tenterhooks to see if another series will be released, and now the cast have finally aligned their schedules to make it happen.

The BBC are said to be gearing up to confirm Line of Duty will be back on screens for a seventh series. Fans have been urged to keep an eye out for any online announcements that will be followed by TV teaser trailers.

The police drama has been a smash hit with fans as it initially aired over six series from 2012 up until 2021. Cast members had been hinting at a comeback as Adrian Dunbar, who starred as Superintendent Ted Hastings, confirmed the show’s creator Jed Merucio was working on a new script.

Now, it seems fans won’t have long to wait for an official announcement as a source said: “Although this has been discussed at length since the unsatisfactory ending of series six in 2021, it’s still going to create huge excitement when the Beeb makes the announcement.

“It’s one they’ve been preparing to make for weeks, but they’ve been trying to pick the right moment, since The Celebrity Traitors has been hogging quite a lot of limelight recently.” They added to Sun: “And the BBC very much view Line Of Duty as one of the jewels in its crown that they want to deliver with some fanfare.”

The BBC declined to comment when approached by the Mirror. Back in July, Actor Adrian said: “We’re really excited about getting our hands on a Line of Duty script, to see what happens to us.”

The Ridley star even teased what is to come on the programme, which could air in 2026, as he told The Times: “It is down to the BBC to make an announcement, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that next year we’ll be working on a new series. No doubt Jed will think of some interesting twists and turns.”

Martin Compston played DS Steve Arnott in the show, which came to an end when his character and his team discovered the identity of “H”. He also shared details on whether viewers can expect more from the series.

“We’re always talking about possibilities and schedules and whatnot,” he said to The Sun. Martin didn’t dare share more and added: “Everybody’s got stuff going on at the minute, so I think anything, unfortunately, would be a way off.”

Before Martin discussed a potential new series, a source told the same publication that Adrian, Vicky McClure and Martin will reunite to film six new episodes. They said at the time: “This is the news Line of Duty fans have been waiting for since the sixth season left them deflated when it aired back in 2021.

“The BBC almost immediately requested more episodes to continue the story, but the success of the show meant Vicky, Martin and Adrian were instantly snapped up for other projects. But after several meetings with Jed [Mercurio, creator and writer] and the production team, they’ve finally managed to clear space in their calendars next year to commit to making the show.”

 

While last August, Adrian said that he was desperate to get back into character for another series. He told Good Housekeeping: “We all want another series.

“We filmed our last series in lockdown, which meant we didn’t get to do anything other than work, so we’re really keen to get together for one last hurrah.”

Just months before taking on Celebrity Race Across the World 2025 with his older sister, which will see the sibling duo competing with other stars as they race 5,900km across Central America on just £30 each a day, Loose Men star Roma opened up about the struggle he remembers most vividly from his childhood.

In a conversation with singer Tom Grennan on their You About? podcast, Roman shared memories of him and Harley Moon featuring in national magazines alongside their famous parents during a period when finances were tight for the family.

Shirlie and husband Martin, who was a member of the band Spandau Ballet before starring as Steve Owen in BBC soap EastEnders, were struggling with money due to the musician’s health battles in the nineties.

My parents had no money at the time because my dad had all these operations and s*** for his brain, so, like, they were trying to get more money,” Roman explained to podcast co-host Tom. He went on to admit that even though they had appeared in magazines as a family, Martin and Shirlie were still anxious about their children being snapped by paparazzi on holiday.

Roman continued: “But then, even up to when I was maybe 13, if we’d gone on holiday, we were never allowed to go to the beach because when we went on the beach, my mum and dad would always be like, ‘there it is’ and you’d see a boat come past, quite far out, and then, like, stop, and there would just be a long lens camera just taking pictures of kids on beaches.”

Roman heartbreakingly revealed his mum would often be left in tears after seeing pictures the paparazzi had taken of them appearing in the press. He shared: “It’s mad in that sense, you see it less and less now, like those old celebrity pictures on the beach, you see that a lot less now.

“But at the time, my whole life, me growing up, was my mum crying because they’re taking horrendous pictures and they’d only use the worst picture.” Reflecting on a specific traumatic moment following a holiday, Roman said Shirlie “cried for, like, five days” when photos of the family on a banana boat were published in the press.

Ahead of Celebrity Race Across the World airing on Thursday night, Harleymoon explained she was previously given the chance to go on the BBC show with her mum, but Shirlie had concerns, so the pair missed out.

Harleymoon told the Radio Times: “My mum was asked to be in the first Celebrity Race Across the World and was going to take me, but thought it sounded too hard. I was glad to have another chance to go.”

Sharing his own motivations to sign up to the series, Roman, who has been open about his struggles with anxiety and depression, said: “I came off all medication [antidepressants] over a year ago and the race was a good test for my anxiety.”

She said: “Suits was really good, I thought she was a wee bit…her character was a bit annoying. That wasn’t her fault, it was the character, but she can do whatever she wants.” As well as Suits, Meghan made appearances in shows like CSI: NY, 90210 and Without A Trace before she became globally famous after marrying into royalty.

The Duchess was also a regular on the US version of Deal or No Deal, appearing as one of the models holding a suitcase from 2006 until 2007. Although she’s returning to the screens, it’s said she will be playing herself in the Amazon MGM Studios film, which focuses on two couples, one of them being famous, and the other not being famous.

A source told The Sun: “This is a massive moment for Meghan and signifies a return to doing what she truly loves. She has been swamped with offers, but this one felt right. It is Meghan’s way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set.”

They added that everybody involved in the production had been sworn to secrecy. Meanwhile, her husband, the Duke of Sussex, is said to be extremely supportive of his wife’s return to the screen and has been encouraging her to do “whatever brings her joy.”

Earlier this year, the mother-of-two admitted that she occasionally missed her acting career. But while Harry is extremely supportive, he admits that one scene of Meghan’s left a lasting mark on his mind. Writing in his memoir, Spare, the Duke said: “I’d witnessed her and a cast mate mauling each other in some sort of office conference room.

“It would take electric shock therapy to get those images out of my head.” In the past, Meghan has always been open about her experiences as an actress, admitting she struggled earlier in her career. Despite getting countless auditions, directors rejected her, which she says had an impact on her self-esteem.

Speaking to Vanity Fair in October 2022, the Duchess made a very cryptic comment about a possible return to the industry. She told the outlet: “I left Suits right after the 100th episode, in 2018. I didn’t think I’d ever be in the entertainment industry again. But the entire culture has changed; streamers have changed things. When asked directly if she would consider returning to the screens, she quipped: “No, I’m done. I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not.”

Cat Deeley has booked an appointment after damaging her tooth live on air. The presenter, 49, was at the helm of This Morning earlier this week when she bit into a toffee apple and had to consult her dentist for an appointment after it all went a little bit wrong.

‌Holding her mouth at the top of Thursday’s show, she updated viewers as she said: “It’s okay, it’s okay. I just can’t say Thursday. It’s absolutely fine. I’m going tomorrow to get an other appointment, I took the toffee apples from yesterday to parents’ evening. Their teeth, the young gnashers were fine, it’s the old ones.”

A clip from yesterday’s show rolled where she was seen biting into a toffee apple and Ben reassured her that the ‘tooth fairy will come’ as she winced in pain.

Speaking to her co-star Ben Shephard, she jokingly said: “You were so concerned, that’s what was so touching,” before he confirmed that she is to get it ‘re-bonded’ and sorted.

Cat replied: “I’ve chipped my tooth!” as Ben laughed. It all comes just days after Cat was asked about the possibility of co-hosting a show with her ex-husband Patrick Kielty. Prior to the announcement of their split, the This Morning presenter revealed to hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos that she was not keen on the idea of presenting the ITV show alongside Patrick.

She said: “There was question at the time as to whether my husband would do it, because he’s a stand-up comedian and he’s also a host too. So, everybody was saying oh is he going to do it with you as well and I was like ‘no thank you’.”

That said, Aaron gave Robert his blessing to go through with his vow renewal with Kev, knowing the predicament they were in. With Robert only staying with Kev, who he says saved him in prison, because of his terminal illness, Aaron told Robert he loved him but said they could keep things a secret.

In the meantime he told Robert not to break Kev’s heart in his final months, and allowed the wedding to go ahead. Of course neither of them knew the truth about Kev’s heart condition, something doctor Liam Cavanagh soon realised.

Approaching Kev in the toilets at the pub after the wedding, he brought up how he’d seen his notes. He proceeded to state that while Kev had a heart condition, it was treatable and he wasn’t dying soon at all.

Kev knew this full well though, and then silenced Liam. So Robert’s stayed with him instead of reuniting with Aaron because he believes Kev hasn’t got long to live.

But Kev is lying, so how long until the truth comes out? Some fans think it will be revealed soon, and that this will lead to his and Robert’s special prison episode next week.

One big theory is that it will come out further down the line along with other drama, and it will lead to a mystery whodunnit with Kev being killed off. So is Kev going to meet a grisly end?

A fan said: “You know what this means, Kev is going to be the next murdered person for the whodunnit. Stacking up motives every episode while he’s making enemies.”

Another fan suggested: “Im guessing the truth comes out next week, leading to the prison episode.” It comes as Kev actor Chris Coghill and Robert actor Ryan Hawley teased a big twist in the prison episode.

Ryan said: “There’s one particularly very nice little twist that neither of us knew about until I read the script. I remember reading it like and I was like, whoa, because no one had told me that was something that had happened, and it is massively pivotal.

“As far as we know, no one finds out about it so there are some interesting things that they’re sewing in this episode for things potentially leading forward.”

The statement declared: “Pauline was so many things to so many people, playing a variety of roles in her life. A bright, sparky, witty presence on stage and screen. Her illustrious career saw her play politicians, mothers and queens.

“She will always be remembered as the iconic, strong-willed, vivacious and wise Shirley Valentine – a role that she made all her own. We were familiar with all those parts of her because her magic was contained in each one of them.

“More than anything, though, she was our loving mum, our wonderful grandma and great-grandma. Warm, funny, generous, thoughtful, wise, she was always there for us. And she was John’s life-long love. A partner, work collaborator, and wife of 56 years.

“We particularly want to thank her carers: angels who looked after her with dignity, compassion, and most of all love. She could not have had a more peaceful goodbye. We hope you will remember her at the height of her powers; so joyful and full of energy; and give us the space and privacy to contemplate a life without her.”

Emmerdale has faced a barrage of 60 Ofcom complaints following a distressing storyline that has left viewers feeling “depressed and disturbed”.

The ITV soap has been exploring the serious issue of county lines trafficking and sexual exploitation through a challenging plot centred on April (Amelia Flanagan).

Viewers will recall that April became entangled in drug dealing for Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) in an attempt to clear her boyfriend Dylan’s (Fred Kettle) mounting debt.

The storyline took a darker turn when it emerged that Ray’s mother Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths) was orchestrating the criminal operation and had coerced April into sex work.

The distressing scenes showed April, having consumed large quantities of alcohol, refusing to comply, which enraged Callum who then tried to force himself upon her, prompting her to strike him over the head with a bottle, believing she had k!ll3d him.

Viewers were horrified watching the scenes unfold, as one wrote: “Soaps are meant to be light relief after a hard days work. We see enough of this in dramas so we do not need to see it in soaps.”

“It was very painful to watch, awful,” another said, while someone else called the storyline “dreadful”.

“This story is vile I am going to stop watching Emmerdale,” someone else wrote.

Another said: “So disappointed with this it’s sick, such a shame it used to be a good soap.”

Someone else said: “I agree, have had enough of these story lines. Yes I understand they are trying to portray real life but it’s just too much now to sit and watch this…we used to watch for entertainment to lighten our days so to speak but to have a voice say after every episode If you have been affected by this. What is going on x.”

Another fumed: “It’s no wonder this show is going down the pan with harrowing and violent storylines like this one and I’m so glad that I don’t watch this rubbish anymore as I want to watch something on the TV in the evening that is going to cheer and uplift me and not this depressing and disturbing nonsense.”

Another viewer meanwhile shared: “It may only be a soap but it has highlighted how young people are drawn into the world of drugs and sexual exploitation. Personally, I think the writers have done a great job in raising our awareness.”

In scenes that followed, April confessed everything that had happened to her to her dad Marlon (Mark Charnock), who vowed to help her and keep her safe, but as he prepared to go to the police, Ray stormed in and shot Marlon, with April watching him di3 in front of her.

It was then revealed that the shooting had been a daydream, and Marlon was still alive, though April’s future is uncertain.

The actress took to Instagram to reshare a clip from the episode, paying tribute to her co-star, and writing: “@markcharnock No one I would rather have done this ep with (sic).”

Ed Balls was supported live on air today by his co-star Susanna Reid as the pair presented Wednesday morning’s episode of Good Morning Britain. The 58-year-old ITV host was congratulated by his peers as it was announced that he had won a very special award.

Susanna explained that he had been honoured with a Lifetime Ambassador Award for advocating for support for people who stammer. As she was talking Ed comically pulled the award gong out from under the desk and began to polish the glass on it, making it gleam under the studio lights. “Congratulations,” Susanna said before adding, “I have to say, you do do so much to inspire people, particularly young people, I would say, but also older people who can’t open up about the fact that they have a stammer. You are very open about it, despite the fact for years in your professional life, you could barely admit to yourself that you had a stammer.”

Ed then opened up as he said: “I was told if you talk about it, it’ll make a difference. The award is partly for having gotten the support as an adult, but I also think it’s for spreading a message.

“That’s what we do from time to time on Good Morning Britain, we say it’s ok to talk about it. If you ask for help and you get it, it will make a difference.”

He then turned the moment a bit more light-hearted as he joked: “And you could even end up like me, being able to – well, sort of being able to read an autocue!”

The presenting panel laughed among themselves before regular show guest, Kevin Maguire, added: “This is where it is really important, where people can see someone like them who has overcome whatever, done well and prospered. It’s being a role model. Well done.”

Another said: “Congrats @edballs, well deserved. You are a role model and inspiration for many,” while a third added: “Absolutely well done, Congratulations Ed Balls.”

In a 2011 interview with The Times, Ed first disclosed his battle with a stammer as he explained how he had to memorise all his speeches due to difficulty reading from a script. However, he wasn’t formally diagnosed with the condition until he was 41.

He said at the time: “The worst thing you can do is try and stop it. That’s when you trip up. It happens to me on live TV.

“Some people speak without notes because they think it looks better. Some people do it because they think it leads to a better speech. But I can’t read the words out.”
