“INDIFFERENCE IS A CRIᴍE”: Steph McGovern’s Sh0cking Story Sparks UK Debate on Public Safety!

Titled, Deadline, Steph explained how the tale is fictional but has elements inspired by her real life, including when she was stalked

Returning to TV as a guest on This Morning, journalist and presenter Steph McGovern opened up for the first time about a frightening experience: being stɑlked by an obsessed fan. This real-life episode partly inspired her debut crime novel, Deadline.

In a chat with hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley, Steph, 43, shared: “I’ve had a stɑlker. I’ve never really spoken about it before, but weirdly it felt quite therapeutic to write it into fiction.” While the book itself is fictional, some details are based on her personal story.

What surprised viewers most was how casually TV bosses reacted when Steph reported the situation. “They just said: ‘Oh yeah, everyone gets a stɑlker at some point’,” she recalled. Yet the man wasn’t just an overenthusiastic fan; he often showed up exactly where Steph was filming and even offered her lifts home, bringing along her “favorite snacks” — things she had never shared publicly.

More disturbingly, the stɑlker genuinely believed Steph was in love with him. “Every time I’d say ‘Morning everyone!’ on air, he thought I was speaking directly to him,” Steph explained. “And when I posted on social media, he took it as me telling him where to meet.”

Steph McGovern (pictured) opened up about how she shrugged off her stalker after TV bosses told her it wasn't a big deal

Despite the fear, Steph initially tried to stay polite, worrying about the man’s mental state. “I didn’t want to be rude because I didn’t know what was really going on in his head.” But the breaking point came when the stɑlker contacted her family. One day, Steph’s dad called asking: “Steph, who is this guy you’re seeing? He’s sent us a letter.” In the letter, the stɑlker claimed to be her boyfriend and even asked her father’s permission to marry her.

That finally “freaked Steph out,” as she admitted, and prompted the broadcaster’s security team to step in.

Besides sharing this personal story, Steph delighted fans by appearing again on This Morning after some time away from daytime TV. Previously, she was known for BBC Breakfast and later hosted Steph’s Packed Lunch on Channel 4 from 2020 until it ended in 2023, leaving many viewers missing her presence.

Viewers shared their love on social media: “Steph is down-to-earth, clever, and funny. Hope to see her more often!”; “Please make Steph the main presenter — she’s so good!”

While it’s unclear whether Steph will return to TV regularly, her honesty, charm, and humor continue to endear her to fans.

Steph McGovern opened up about how she shrugged off her stɑlker after TV bosses assured her it wasn’t a big deal.

The journalist and TV presenter, 43, featured on Tuesday’s instalment of This Morning and was interviewed by co-hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley about her new book.

‘I have had a stɑlker, so that story is in there, I’ve never really tɑlked about it before but it was quite fun and therapeutic writing it in a crime fiction,’ Steph explained.

She added: ‘Weirdly in telly, when I found out I had a stɑlker and told my bosses they were like ‘Oh yeah, everyone gets a stɑlker at some point’.

‘But this was a guy who just used to turn up everywhere I went.’

Titled, Deadline, Steph explained how the tale is fictional but has elements inspired by her real life, including when she was stɑlked

The TV presenter recalled how although the man ‘wasn’t horrible’ to her, he did think he was in a relationship with her.

‘He used to think, when I said ‘Morning everyone’ on the telly, that I was talking directly to him and he used to think when I put things on social media that that was me telling him where to meet me,’ she added.

The stɑlker would then turn up to where Steph was broadcasting from and offer her a lift home.

‘… He’d say things to me like, ‘Oh can I give you a lift home again Steph? I’ve got your favourite snacks,’ Steph described.

‘But also I didn’t want to be rude to him because I thought I don’t know what’s going on in his life,’ she added.

However, Steph recalled the ‘final straw’ was when the stɑlker contacted her family.

She said: ‘My dad rang me and was like ‘Steph, who’s this fella you’re seeing? He’s sent us a letter’.’

The man had tɑlked to Steph’s father as though he was in a relationship with her and asked him for permission to marry the journalist.

'I have had a stalker, so that story is in there, I've never really talked about it before but it was quite fun and therapeutic writing it in a crime fiction,' Steph explained

But the stɑlker having her father’s address ‘freaked out’ Steph.

‘That’s when it all kicked in and the BBC security team did their thing,’ she explained.

It comes after This Morning fans were thrilled when Steph made an epic daytime TV return last month.

The journalist and TV presenter appeared alongside LBC radio host Nick Ferrari, 66, for the ITV chat show’s This Morning View segment.

It saw the pair unpack the top headlines, from Chancellor Rachel Reeves‘s spending review yesterday, to a survey on whether the UK still has a North-South divide.

Steph, after working as BBC Breakfast’s business presenter and a programme co-host, began leading her own daytime chat show Steph’s Packed Lunch in 2020.

But after the Channel 4 programme was axed in 2023, viewers have been missing her presence on daytime TV – and took to X to welcome her return.

One user said: ‘Loving Steph McGovern on This Morning today. Down to earth, funny and clever. She should be on more often or even presenting the show.’

One user had their first introduction to Steph on the segment, saying: ‘I like the woman who was with Nick Ferrari. Who is she?

BREAKING NEWS: Fans Stunned by Damage Figures after New Zealand’s South Island FLOOD that left Ex-Deal or No Deal Host Noel Edmonds and Wife Speechless!

The TV personality and his wife, Liz, relocated in 2019 and own an 800-acre estate, River Haven, which features a restaurant, a vineyard, a pub and a wellness centre

After more than three years of building a new dream in New Zealand, British TV veteran Noel Edmonds and his wife Liz are now facing their biggest challenge since arriving in this land. A devastating flood recently swept through the South Island, heavily damaging their 800-acre property, River Haven, which includes a vineyard, restaurant, wellness center, and pub.

River Haven, which the couple began developing in 2019, was not just a home but an entire vision: a haven for relaxation and rejuvenation. Yet in just a few hours, three years of hard work were swallowed by raging waters.

However, a natural disaster on New Zealand's South Island has left them unsure of the future after floodwater wrecked their stunning home and business

In a YouTube video, Noel appeared visibly shaken: “Liz and I are in shock, and right now, we’re not sure how to move forward.” Thankfully, no one was hurt, and most of their livelihood isn’t completely lost. However, their wellness center – built according to regulations, set 50 meters from the river and 10 meters above normal water level – took the full force of the flood. Two treatment rooms were severely damaged, and one was even torn from its foundations. The main building was left covered in thick silt and mud.

Noel also highlighted a major concern beyond their control: the main access road to their property suffered foundation damage, and traffic restrictions could severely impact their business.

Despite the setback, the former “Deal Or No Deal” host praised the resilience of the local community: “I’m truly in awe of the people here. They always say: ‘We’ll come back and rebuild.’ That spirit moved me deeply.”

Two of the estate's treatment suites were left 'wrecked' and one was even 'torn from its foundations'

This isn’t the first time Noel and Liz have faced New Zealand’s harsh weather. They’ve experienced three earthquakes—one so strong the house shook, cutlery rattled, and they had to rush outside carrying their dogs. Unpredictable weather with tropical rains, strong winds, fallen trees, and even a dormant volcano nearby have added to the challenges.

After over 50 years in UK television and radio, Noel left his homeland in 2018 with Liz to start fresh. They chose the small riverside town of Ngatimoti to build River Haven, hoping to create a unique place to relax and reconnect with nature.

Though the future now looks uncertain, the couple’s optimism remains: “We’re not feeling sorry for ourselves; we just need to think about what comes next,” Noel shared.

Their journey has also been captured in the ITV documentary “Noel Edmonds’ Kiwi Adventure,” telling the story of facing natural disasters, adapting, and continuing their dream in a new land.

However, a natural disaster on New Zealand’s South Island has left them unsure of the future after floodwater wrecked their stunning home and business.

The Motueka river burst its banks last week following heavy rain and has flooded Tasman and Marlborough areas.

Noel uploaded a video to YouTube detailing the impact it has had on the local land.

He acknowledged him, Liz and their team were ‘very fortunate’ and haven’t had any injuries or had their livelihood destructed.

The former Deal Or No Deal presenter stressed that ‘thousands of Kiwis on New Zealand’s south island have suffered in this terrible disaster’.

‘However, I can’t conceal the fact that Liz and I are in a state of shock and at this point we’re not quite sure of the way forward,’ Noel added.

‘You might have seen films of our beautiful vineyard setting in the Moteuka valley, however our river valley, our paradise now looks very different.’

Video footage showed fast-flowing water gushing over the land.

‘We’ve spent the last three years creating a wonderful wellness centre, it was constructed in accordance to all of the local regulations, it was about 50m away from the river bank and some 10m above the normal water level,’ Noel explained.

‘However this is a quite extraordinary event and our wellness centre has taken the full brunt of the torrent.’

Two of the estate’s treatment suites were left ‘wrecked’ and one was even ‘torn from its foundations’.

Noel commented: ‘Three years of hard graft destroyed in just a few hours.’

The TV star acknowledged the positivity of the local community and said: ‘I’m in total awe of the way in which our Kiwi neighbours have picked themselves up pulled together as a community.

‘You know Kiwis always say ‘Oh I’ll give it a go’. And I saw one interview where some people who had had their home washed away said ‘Well we’ll come back and we’ll rebuild our lives’.’

However, the future still looks uncertain for Noel and his wife as they start to look at their next steps.

‘Liz and I are not feeling sorry for ourselves but I have to say, we’re not really sure of the way forward and there is one really important factor that is beyond our control,’ he explained.

The foundations of the highway were damaged by the flood and restrictions on accessing it could cause issues to local businesses.

‘It’s fair to say Liz and I now have to review our three year venture and wonder about what the future holds,’ Noel said.

This isn’t the first time Noel and Liz have had to deal with extreme weather in New Zealand.

The TV star recalled one particular incident to The Sun and recounted how an earthquake ‘really shook the house’.

He revealed they have experienced three earthquakes whilst living on the estate.

Noel told the publication: ‘During the first one, we were sitting outside with a glass of wine, and I noticed the surface of the wine rippling.

    ‘That was a mild one.

‘The biggest one really shook the house — the cutlery drawer rattled, and Liz and I each grabbed a dog and ran outside.’

Fortunately, the incident didn’t cause any structural damage to the property.

He added: ‘But, yes, earthquakes — and a dormant volcano just up the way. At least, we hope that it’s dormant.’

Noel described the weather as having an ‘attitude’ because of how severe it can get.

He recalled trees falling down in strong winds, ‘tropical rain’ and landslips.

His new documentary, Noel Edmonds’ Kiwi Adventure, hit screens earlier this month on ITV and follows the couple as they navigate life together in New Zealand.

The TV personality and radio presenter was best known for his stint hosting the Channel 4 game show from 2005 to 2016 when it ended, before its revival with Stephen Mulhern in 2023.

But after more than 50 years on British TV and radio, Noel left the UK in 2018 with Liz to build a new life in New Zealand.

They have now opened a hospitality business in the small rural, riverside town of Ngatimoti.

After 31 years, what happened to BBC’s ‘The House Of Eliott’ beauty? Louise Lombard: Stunning Makeover and New Love Story surprise fans!

The star, 54, played Evangeline Eliott between 1991 and 1994 in the popular series (pictured with co-star Stella Gonet)

Over three decades have passed since audiences last saw Louise Lombard as Evangeline Eliott – the young, fashion-loving sister from “The House Of Eliott.” Back then, Evangeline was known for her strikingly short brunette hair, bold red lips, and the classic charm of the 1920s. But today, at 54, Louise Lombard reemerges with a fresh look: soft blonde curls, a sun-kissed complexion, and a modern Hollywood vibe.

Aired between 1991 and 1994, “The House Of Eliott” followed two sisters, Beatrice (played by Stella Gonet) and Evangeline Eliott, as they pursued their dream of starting a fashion brand in 1920s London. Despite running for only three seasons and 34 episodes, the series left a strong impression, capturing the spirit of women’s empowerment and the evolving world of fashion in early 20th-century Britain.

The House of Eliott followed the lives of two sisters, Beatrice (Stella Gonet) and Evangeline Eliott, trying to set up a dress making business while in London in the 20s

After this iconic role, Louise kept challenging herself with various projects in both television and film. She appeared in shows like “Bodyguards,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “NCIS,” “The Mentalist,” and “The Fix.” On the big screen, she acted in titles such as “Tale of the Mummy,” “My Kingdom,” “Countdown,” and the “After” series. More recently, audiences spotted her in “Oppenheimer” as Ruth Sherman Tolman – a small role, yet one that rekindled memories of her earlier fame.

Beyond acting, Louise has also embraced happiness in her personal life. Recently, she surprised fans by sharing wedding photos with her new husband, Tom Poleman, captioned “NYC 05-07-25” to mark their special day. The couple later enjoyed a romantic trip to Paris, posing under the Eiffel Tower and adding their own lock to the Love Lock Bridge. Louise frequently posts sweet moments with Tom on social media, drawing admiration from followers.

Before marrying Tom, Louise had been married to Jon Stephen and had dated Alessandro Sol. She is also a proud mother of two, balancing her career and family life with grace.

Looking back at Louise Lombard’s journey, her resilience and willingness to reinvent herself stand out. From the dreamy, slightly naive Evangeline of the past to today’s confident and fulfilled woman – each phase reflects a different kind of beauty.

For fans of classic British period dramas, Louise Lombard’s name remains forever linked with “The House Of Eliott.” But for her, that role was only the beginning of a richer, ever-evolving story.

GOOD Morning America’s Ginger Zee has ripped a troll online who criticized her reporting on heartbreaking news.

The GMA meteorologist broadcasted live from Virginia Key, Florida on Thursday to report on its record-breaking ocean temperatures.

In the segment, Ginger highlighted how the state’s current massive heat wave is affecting marine life, calling the conditions “devastating.”

However, not all were sympathetic to the situation, as one critic slammed GMA on Twitter for reporting the story.

“I see you keeping up with the propaganda campaign on global warming or earth on fire or whatever u people say it is today,” their tweet read, with a bunch of laughing, crying face emojis.

But Ginger wasn’t allowing the comment to slide and clapped back at the user in her reply.

“And I see you still haven’t gotten a profile picture. Thanks so much I am just here presenting data,” the news anchor wrote back.

    FANS’ CONCERNS

Meanwhile, other viewers of the daytime TV program have expressed their concerns for Ginger recently as she’s been out in the field.

Last week, the 41-year-old shared a photo on Instagram of her standing in a yard where a sinkhole had formed, sparking a slew of worried comments from her followers.

She explained her whereabouts in her caption: “Here in Cindy Beyer’s front yard. A sinkhole consumed her driveway. Debris piled up against the homes from the creek that became a seething river.

“Many in the Hudson Valley picking up more than 8 inches in about 6 hours. From here to Pennsylvania where they had a 1 in 1000 year flood. That means a 0.1% chance of this happening in a given year.”

The caption concluded: “It’s rare. It’s devastating. And it’s not over — Vermont is ground zero today. Stay safe and avoid driving if you are in a flash flood warning!”

Ginger also posted a video where she had gone through the area and shared the catastrophic results of what had happened at the home.

Fans urged her to be careful in the comments, with one person writing: “Be safe out there.”

Another echoed the thought: “Ginger don’t fall out there!”

    CLAPPING BACK

Ginger was put in another scary situation days earlier on July 6 when she visited a “ghost forest” in New Jersey.

She took to Instagram to share a photo of her on-site, donning an ABC News baseball cap with mosquito netting attached to it.

But the TV star again faced some scrutiny from social media users, though not about the story, but her wardrobe.

One confused fan tweeted: “@Ginger_Zee why don’t U explain that Ridiculous NET on ur face?”

Not one to back down from a troll, Ginger fired back: “I’ve explained it every time I’ve been on – I’m in a swamp ghost forest — this is a mosquito net so it’s not so ridiculous.”

The mom of two recently returned to GMA after taking a break from her hosting duties to spend time with her family.

Ginger shares two sons, seven-year-old Adrian and five-year-old Miles, with her husband, Ben Aaron, 41.

The Good Morning America anchor, 62, posted snaps from early on in her career when she was covering the Wimbledon tennis tournament.

Robin looked every inch the fresh-faced reporter with a short ’90s style ‘do and muted makeup in the photos.

She wore a series of blazers with exaggerated shoulder pads, teaming them with chunky gold earrings and necklaces.

Robin smiled while posing on a tennis court next to a cameraman in one snap and checked her notes while sitting on the grass in another.

The TV star shared the nostalgic shots on Instagram on Monday and wrote: “Throwback photos from covering Wimbledon in the 90’s.

“Just as excited to be here now as I was then.”

Her co-star and close friend Lara Spencer commented: “So great. Love seeing these.”

Ginger Zee added: “Loving these throwbacks.”

Robin has come a long way since she first started out in television, both in her professional and personal life.

In January, she revealed that she will tie the knot with her partner Amber Laign at some point this year.

She said on GMA: “I’m hesitating because I haven’t said it out loud yet. I’m saying yes to marriage, we’re getting married this year.

“We’ve talked about it, but we’d put it off because she became ill. But it is saying yes to that next chapter.”

When the show returned from a commercial break, Robin’s co-host George Stephanopoulos said it was “wonderful, wonderful news!”

Robin responded: “We’ve been talking about it, and then to actually say it out loud, I’m very excited.”

George – who is married to Ali Wentworth – quipped: “Well, welcome to the club.”

    WEDDING PLANS

Last month, Robin and Amber appeared to go wedding cake shopping for their upcoming nuptials.

They were spotted in a photo at their local bakery, Vincenzo Salvatore Cakes.

“Look who stopped by to get a taste of Vincenzo Salvatore Cakes,” the account wrote alongside a snap of the couple on Instagram.

“We can not wait to be a part of @robinrobertsgma and @ameritsa1227’s big day,” they added.

While little details have been shared about their wedding, Amber did reveal several guests that will be attending.

Amber let slip in February that Robin’s co-host Lara and Gio Benitez and his husband Tommy DiDario will be there.

Robin and Amber met in 2005 after being set up on a blind date.

GMA fans have begged Ginger Zee to stay safe as she reports on location from a yard where a sinkhole formed.

Ginger took to Instagram with an update for fans on where she was on Monday.

Ginger captioned her photo: “Here in Cindy Beyer’s front yard. A sink hole consumed her driveway. Debris piled up against the homes from the creek that became a seething river.”

She continued: “Many in the Hudson valley picking up more than 8 inches in about 6 hours. From here to Pennsylvania where they had a 1 in 1000 year flood. That means a 0.1% chance of this happening in a given year.”

She explained further: “It’s rare. It’s devastating. And it’s not over — Vermont is ground zero today. Stay safe and avoid driving if you are in a flash flood warning!”

Ginger wore a blue jacket with jeans to match.

She paired her utilitarian look with hiking boots that could handle the terrain.

She wore her hair up and tucked back under a blue baseball cap.

In her photo, she seemed to be surveying the damage.

She also posted a video where she had gone through the area and shared the catastrophic results of what had happened at the woman’s home.

Fans urged her to be careful in the comments.

“Be safe out there,” one wrote.

“Ginger don’t fall out there!” another commented.

    OM-ZEE!

Meanwhile, Ginger showed off her strong arms and abs in a tiny pink swimsuit in new photos.

The Good Morning America meteorologist took to her Instagram Stories on Saturday to share the pics.

In them, Ginger stunned in the two-piece, covering her bottom with a beach towel.

One snap showed her posing alongside a friend in the backyard, donning no makeup and her brunette locks in a high bun.

She again showcased her fit figure in a video where she brought out a lavish cake to a house full of guests.

Ginger seemed to be hosting a princess-themed birthday party as decorations were strung about the room.

The cake kept with the theme as it was decorated to mimic a purple princess dress and was topped with a giant crown.

Ginger appeared in several more photos and videos of her dressed in a string bikini while enjoying the gathering with her guests.

    SWEET TRIBUTE

The TV personality has had a lot to celebrate lately, with just days earlier commemorating her mother, Dawn Zuidgeest-Craft’s 70th birthday.

She posted photos of the mother-daughter duo on Instagram, sweetly writing in the caption: “Raise your hand if your mom turns 70 today!

“Now raise your hand if your 70-year-old mom decided to retire from a half-a-century career as a neonatal nurse practitioner and professor of nursing and go to medical school because she always wanted to…

“Wait, no one else? She’s truly one of a kind.”

Ginger then gushed that she’s “grateful” not just for her mom’s “accomplishments, [or] many degrees or even the hundreds of babies lives [she’s] saved.”

“It’s you, for being my mom, my mentor, and good overall human. And if anyone ever wonders where I get my energy… drive, commitment, resilience, and strength, look no further than soon-to-be Dr. Dawn.”

The 42-year-old ended her touching tribute: “Happy birthday @zuidgeestcraft – now go figure out how we can all make it to double 70 so we can hang out even longer.”

    CLAPPING BACK

Ginger had a very different tune on social media earlier this week while clapping back at a troll who criticized her appearance on air.

It happened after the TV host shared a selfie on Instagram of her at a “ghost forest” in New Jersey.

However, Ginger wasn’t wearing her usual form-fitting dresses and perfect hairstyle as she does in the studio.

Instead, she sported a bright blue jacket and an ABC News baseball cap with mosquito netting attached.

One commenter was particularly intrigued by Ginger’s getup and bashed the star on Twitter.

They wrote: “@Ginger_Zee why don’t U explain that Ridiculous NET on ur face?”

Ginger couldn’t ignore the harsh remark and replied: “I’ve explained it every time I’ve been on – I’m in a swamp ghost forest — this is a mosquito net so it’s not so ridiculous.”

The mom of two recently returned to GMA after taking a break from her hosting duties to spend time with her family.

Ginger shares two sons: Adrian, seven, and Miles, five, with her husband, Ben Aaron, 41.

The video showed the GMA staff arriving before heading into hair and makeup.

Once ready, Robin and Michael headed onto the new set where they looked visibly stunned by the shiny new studio they would now call home.

Robin looked around open-mouthed as she beamed from ear-to-ear before the clock hit 7am and they were on air.

But despite the glimpses of the stunning new studio and all it has to offer, many fans pointed out a “scary” detail that left them worried.

“Nice but floors look slippery,” said one fan, noting how shiny the flooring in the studio loks.

Someone then replied: “That’s exactly what I said. That’s what all looks a little scary.”

While another added: “Yes I would be scared of falling in them heels lol.”

    ‘FLOORS LOOK VERY SLIPPERY!’

Meanwhile, another fan said: “Nice studio! Floors look very slippery! And be careful on the rooftop, I felt like I was out there on the edge. Lol.”

A fifth person then wrote: “Love the floors… Is that some type of glass over them?”

While a sixth wearily penned: “The studio looks beautiful. I worry about those floors with the women.

“Love that all the abc shows are now under one roof. There must be so much activity in that building though,” noted another.

    NEW ERA OF GMA

The hit ABC show aired its first episode from its brand-new studio at the Robert A. Iger building in New York City on Monday, June 16.

The beloved GMA anchors bid an emotional farewell to the Times Square studio last week.

After 26 years of Times Square being home to GMA, the show moved out on Friday, June 13.

Speaking on the first episode being broadcast from the new digs, Robin Roberts said: “We appreciate everyone for the effort they put into this morning.”

Meanwhile, on her final episode in Times Square the Friday before, Robin reflected on working in the iconic location.

“I just remember thinking, I’m a little girl from Mississippi, and I’m working in Times Square,” she said.

“It’s just so majestic. I just remember the energy and looking around going, ‘This is our home.’ All these years later it still feels that way.”
