After three decades as Fox News’ chief political correspondent, Carl Cameron announced his retirement from the cable news network in 2017.

Cameron started at Fox News when it launched in 1996 and was known as “Campaign Carl” due to the six presidential campaigns he covered while at the network.

In an email to co-workers at the time, Cameron shared that he was grateful for his time at Fox News. “I’m honored and overwhelmed to have been a part of it as your Congressional correspondent, Chief White House correspondent, and most of all Chief Political Correspondent,” he wrote, according to The Hill.

However, it seems like his exit wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. So, why did Cameron really leave Fox News?

Fast forward a couple of years, and Fox News had a very different statement regarding Cameron’s exit.

In 2019, Cameron appeared on MSNBC to discuss Fox News host Shepard Smith’s decision to leave the network.

“It’s a big loss for Fox News Channel and it says something about the way in which the cable channel has been for years attriting, shrinking the news department and building its right-wing entertainment hosts because that gets ratings and ratings gets revenue and that’s how they make money,” Cameron said (via The Wrap). “It’s a real sad day for people who watch Fox News and want accurate information because Shep was somebody who you could reliably count on.”

Fox News quickly responded to Cameron’s comments and disclosed more information about why he allegedly left Fox News in the first place.

“Carl Cameron left the network because he was no longer able to show up to work each day – he has a very short memory for our endless compassion, patience, and graciousness in dealing with his multitude of personal struggles,” a Fox News spokesperson said.

In 2019, Cameron started the progressive news aggregator, Front Page Live, with climate expert Joe Romm and his wife, a former Fox News technician, Moira Hopkins, among others.

According to the website, Front Page Live‘s mission is to “unite, ignite and inspire our readers to act on issues that matter to them with fact-based journalism, information, analysis, and opinion.”

“We believe democracy is strengthened by an informed electorate and weakened by a misinformed electorate,” the mission statement continued, with a slight dig at Fox News and its viewers.

More recently, Cameron accused Fox News host Tucker Carlson of “screaming fire in a crowded movie house for years,” on CNN, which Fox News supporters didn’t like.

“And that kind of stuff absolutely has to stop, whether it’s the antitrust bill to take down and deplatform people who lie and put out falsehoods that cause damage and violent, violent hate — there ought to be something done about it,” Cameron added.

However, he didn’t only call out Carlson and Fox News.

Cameron also blamed “social media in general. It’s on the internet. And we have to remember that a good portion of what we read is coming from folks who aren’t Americans, pretending to be Americans in order to gaslight them even worse.”

It’s clear that Fox News and Cameron won’t be working together again anytime soon.

The View’s already difficult path to replacing Meghan McCain as its resident conservative co-host was made slightly more difficult when one contender made clear she would not get VCinated for CVD-19.

Fox News contributor Lisa Marie Boothe interviewed with ABC News and The View executives earlier this year, a source close to Boothe told The Daily Beast. Those conservations ended, this person with knowledge of the situation said, after the conservative pundit made clear to the network that she will not get any of the required jabs against the coronavirus.

An ABC News source confirmed to The Daily Beast that the network had conversations with Boothe, among “dozens and dozens” of candidates. The show never had an opportunity to offer her a guest-hosting spot or book a potential date. And once Boothe’s stance on VCinations became apparent, the source said, further conversation became a “moot point” and a “non-starter” due to the network’s strict policies.

ABC News’ parent company, the Walt Disney Co., currently requires all U.S. employees be VCinated against the coronavirus. And New York City, where The View tapes its episodes before a live studio audience, now mandates VCs for all private-sector workers. Fox News requires employees at its NYC headquarters to be VCinated. Boothe, who is currently based in Miami and revealed this week that she tested positive for CVD-19, did not respond to requests for comment.

It is unclear when exactly The View’s discussions with Boothe took place and then stalled out over her anti-VC stance, but the Fox pundit made her position public in the fall. Boothe boasted on Fox News in late October that she hadn’t gotten her CVD-19 shots “as a giant middle finger to Joe Biden’s tyranny.” Weeks later, she outlined her beliefs in a Newsweek opinion column, titled “Why I’m Not Vaccinated.”

“As a healthy 36-year-old woman, CVD-19 does not pose a statistically meaningful threat to my life. I have a 99.97 percent chance of survival,” Boothe wrote at the time. “Why would I get a VC for a virus that I do not fear and that isn’t a threat to my life—particularly when there is an element of risk from the VCs?”

She continued: “The VC helps protect the VCinated from dying, but it does not protect the VCinated from either getting or spreading CVD. In other words, it seems clear to many of us that the VC is a personal health benefit, not a public health benefit. Therefore, whether to get VCinated is a profoundly personal decision, not a public health decision. And not everyone is high-risk.”

Boothe isn’t the only right-wing commentator to be affected by The View’s strict VC policy. Jedediah Bila, a former Fox News host who was once The View’s resident conservative host, was forced to tape a guest appearance last month from a remote location because she is not VCinated.

While relegated to a satellite location, Bila was repeatedly confronted on-air by the show’s hosts over her unVCinated status, prompting a tense standoff culminating in Sunny Hostin accusing her former colleague of peddling “misinformation” to the show’s audience. Bila would later claim that the show “ambushed” her with a “pre-planned” hit to negatively portray her.

Revelations of Boothe’s fruitless conversations with The View came the same week Politico reported that Kat Timpf, a fellow Fox News contributor, turned down the role to replace McCain “because of the show’s reputation for treating conservatives poorly and her contract with Fox.”

Politico also noted that the daytime talk show’s cast has grown increasingly impatient over the producers’ inability to settle on a permanent conservative host. Since McCain’s departure, the show has tested out a large rotation of right-leaning guest hosts, including former Trump officials Alyssa Farah and Morgan Ortagus, NFL sideline reporter Michele Tafoya, cable-news fixtures Mary Katharine Ham and S.E. Cupp, as well as Republican figures like Condoleezza Rice and Carly Fiorina.

A key problem for the network’s search is the show’s desire for the rare commentator who is credible with right-leaning audiences while also not engaging in the election denialism, baseless conspiracy theorizing, or acid-tongued rhetoric that have become a feature of Trump-era conservatism.

“They are really looking for a unicorn,” a former View staffer said. “They want someone who is going to fight—but not too hard, because they don’t want it to be ugly and bickering.”

Acuna’s on air colleagues told her to feel free to step aside if she needed to – but she said she was fine and her son was fine too.

‘He’s okay, he’s good,’ she said to camera.

‘He’s the one who was telling me what was happening,’ she noted, adding that her sister was also delivering updates via her child, who also attends the high school.

Following the emotional moment, Acuna quickly snapped back to her professional demeanor to say: ‘Parents definitely don’t feel like they’ve been heard, especially over the last few years as we’ve seen the effects of the shut down that it’s had on education and schools and crime in general.

‘We’ll have to see if something actually comes from this,’ she said. ‘This is a really weird thing, toggling between reporting and being a parent here, but I’m speaking as a parent.’

On Wednesday morning,  Denver high school student Austin Lyle allegedly sh0t two male staff members who were searching him for a weapon.

At present, he remains at large and on the run from law enforcement officials.

The sh00ting occurred at around 10am, after which students scattered and were evacuated from the premises.

The incident transpired during a search for a weapon that the student was subjected to every day because of ‘prior behavior.’ It is unclear why the student was allowed to continue attending the school if he was considered to be such a threat.

Lyle was described by officials as African American with an ‘afro,’ and sporting a hoodie with the word Astronaut written on it.

The suspect stands at 5’5 tall, weighs 150 pounds, and was wearing a a green hoodie at the time of the sh00ting.

‘Obviously he is @rm3d and danger0us, and is willing to use the weapon as we learned this morning,’ said Mayor Michael Hancock.

After firing multiple rounds from a handg::n, the student fled the scene and now remains on the run.

Hancock said: ‘We will find that suspect, and we will hold that suspect accountable for his actions this morning and placing everyone in danger and certainly wounding the two staff members who were doing their job and trying to keep everyone safe at the time.’

One of the staff members is in stable condition, but the other is in cr1tical c0ndition and had to undergo emergency surgery.

NEW YORK — Laura Ingraham will leave Fox News’s airwaves next week for a vacation.

The anchor made the announcement when she signed off her show Friday evening, which capped a week of controversy in which she saw more than a dozen advertisers flee her show.

“A blessed Good Friday and Passover to all of you,” Ingraham said. “I’ll be off next week for Easter break with my k1ds.”

A Fox News spokesperson said the week-long absence was pre-planned.

Advertisers bolted from “The Ingraham Angle” after the host sent a tweet earlier this week mocking David Hogg, one of the student-activists who became a voice for g””n control after a shter MD 17 people at his high school in Florida last month.

Ingraham’s tweet included a link to a story on the right-wing news site Daily Wire that said Hogg was rejected by four colleges.

Hogg then urged his 700,000 Twitter followers to contact Ingraham’s advertisers and press them to boycott her prime-time show.

On Thursday, after at least two companies had taken action, Ingraham apologized in a series of tweets.

“On reflection, in the spirit of Holy Week, I apologize for any upset or hurt my tweet caused him or any of the brave victims of Parkland,” she wrote. “For the record, I believe my show was the first to feature David immediately after that horrific shting and even noted how ‘poised’ he was given the tragedy. As always he’s welcome to return to the show anytime for a productive discussion.”

The mea culpa did little to quell backlash. Hogg told CNN on Friday that he was unimpressed with her apology and said it was likely prompted by the loss of ad dollars.

As of Friday night, 14 companies — including the Rachael Ray-partnered dog food brand Nutrish, the travel site TripAdvisor, Office Depot and the streaming service Hulu — have said they will no longer advertise on Ingraham’s show, according to a tally on Mediaite.

Last April, dozens of companies pulled away from the “The O’Reilly Factor” when allegations of sexual harassment against host Bill O’Reilly surfaced. He left the network shortly after.

The c0r0navirus pandemic will prove to be extremely disruptive for many of the Christian faithful celebrating Easter, but theologians say that solitary worship may have its own spiritual benefits.

“Beyond the traditions surrounding Easter —like Easter egg hunts and Easter baskets, special Easter outfits — there is a loss of gathering together to celebrate what is the cornerstone and defining event of Christianity, the resurrection of Jesus Christ,” said Fox News chief religion correspondent Lauren Green.

However, Green reported that spiritual leaders, like San Antonio pastor and best-selling author, Max Lucado, believe that there are benefits to worshiping outside of a church building.

Many, if not most, of the nation’s churches are shuttered, as the Trmp administration called on all Americans to observe strict social distancing guidelines and a growing number of states issued stay-at-home orders.

“It’s not just Easter Sunday the faithful are missing but the entire Holy Week,” said Green, referring to the period of religious observing running from April 5 to April 11.

“Starting with Palm Sunday, Jesus’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Churches give out palm leaves as part of the remembrance,” she explained. “As the week progresses the services get more and more solemn. Maundy Thursday is the Last Supper; Good Friday, Jesus is crucified; Holy Saturday, Jesus lies d3ad in the tomb. And then the triumphal Easter Morning.

“The hymns that are normally sung like, ‘Christ Our Lord is Risen Today, Hallelujah’— will not be heard in a packed sanctuary; the communal reflection of why theologians call this moment the climax of human existence will be experienced only as individuals or small family units,” Green continued, noting that some Christian denominations will face more disruption than others.

“The most impacted will be Roman Catholics and the Orthodox Christians. The receiving of the body and blood of Jesus is a transformative part of the mass. You cannot receive the elements — the bread and wine — from your computer screen. These denominations believe in Transubstantiation — that as the priest prays over the elements they are mysteriously transformed into the actual body and blood of Jesus.”

Despite those challenges, church leaders said the deep meaning of Easter cannot be overshadowed.

“We may cancel Easter services, but the promises of Easter cannot be. That’s above our pay grade,” said Pastor Lucado in a recent episode of Green’s “Lighthouse Faith: podcast. “The promise of Easter is that Christ rose from the d3ad. He’s defeated d3ath and He demonstrated his power over d3ath by exiting the tomb.”

 

“Sometimes going to church is kind of like checking a box,” observed Green. “But in-home worship makes it more of a relationship with the Living God.”

“We can still pray, sing hymns, listen to incredible sermons. In this way, each of us can approach the throne of Grace, read the accounts of the Passion story in all four Gospels, understand and absorb the story for ourselves. And potentially we can become closer to God than ever before.”

The streaming service Fox Nation has multiple shows, documentaries and movies that focus on faith and religious education, including a collection of the sermons of evangelist Billy Graham, a virtual pilgrimage to the holy land and the 2004 movie, “The Passion of the Christ.”

“Mel Gibson’s movie [‘The Passion of The Christ’] is a marvelous depiction of the Passion story, of Jesus’ arrest, trial, crucifixion, d3ath and resurrection,” said Green. “Unlike many Bible movies, it is theologically accurate combining the four gospel versions in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. For example, when Jesus is arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane, one of his followers cuts the ear off a Roman guard and Jesus reattaches it and heals the wound immediately. That’s only in Luke.

 

“People will learn what real Roman crucifixions were like,” she continued. “They were bloody and violent. The Romans were in effect professional executioners. Crucifixion was so awful, a word was created to even explain it. The word excruciating means “out of the cross”… In watching the movie you can see the pain God was willing to go through to save us.”

In the 4-part Fox Nation series, “Holy Week,” Fox News co-host Pete Hegseth explores the story of Jesus and the principals of the Christian faith by visiting ancient landmarks in and around Jerusalem and by examining the art and architect that remains today.

Among the locations virtually visited in “Holy Week” is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which has been closed over public health concerns for the first time since the Black Plague in the 1300s.

“The Church of the Holy Sepulcher is believed to be where Jesus was crucified and buried,” explained Green.  “The church encompasses both sites: Golgotha, the hill where he was crucified and the tomb where he was laid.

“Speaking as someone who has visited the Church, it is a powerful aid to one’s faith,” said Green.  “To see the place the Bible speaks of, to know that it is a real place enshrined in majesty and reverence can make Scripture come alive. To walk on earth where Jesus preached and spoke is transforming.”
