Naga Munchetty 'renews talks' for new job amid BBC Breakfast bullying row

BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty has reportedly ‘renewed talks’ with a radio station away from the corporation amid a b::lly1ng row that has plagued the morning programme. Last month, it was revealed show boss Richard Frediani was on extended leave on the flagship show after complaints about his behaviour.

Host Munchetty was also said to not get on with him. However, many staff members came out in defence of the editor. One even told the Mirror that some staff were disappointed with Munchetty who it’s claimed raised concerns about Frediani’s management style with BBC managers.

And now, a source has claimed that the presenter ‘loves the BBC’ but is looking for a new job.

Speaking to The Sun, they said: “Her team last week renewed talks with LBC. The Global Radio station would suit her as there’s far less of the fluffy nonsense that’s involved in working at the BBC.” The Mirror have reached out to Munchetty’s reps for comment.

Meanwhile, the BBC’s annual salary was recently published and Munchetty was revealed to be earning almost double her co-host Charlie Stayt’s pay.

Stayt and Munchetty present BBC Breakfast from Thursday to Saturday morning, while Jon Kay and Sally Nugent take the helm from Monday to Wednesday.

Stayt, aged 63, has stayed within the £190,000 salary band, whereas Munchetty, aged 50, has enjoyed a £10,000 increase to her earnings, moving from £345,000 to £355,000.

Munchetty, who has presented on the flagship news programme since 2014, has always been paid more than Stayt. Her pay packet accounts for 180 days of presenting on BBC Breakfast, as well as her Radio 5 Live programme and election coverage.

The BBC pay comes amid a b::lly1ng row concerning the BBC Breakfast editor. Some current and former staff of the programme jumped to his defence.

One source told the Mirror: “He is not a bully at all and the truth will come out. He’s a great boss and was – and is still – overwhelmingly loved by the team, who respect his drive, expertise, and journalistic ambition. He has delivered great audiences and the first ever Bafta for breakfast TV.

“He can be brash and opinionated but works so hard for his team and allows people to flourish.”

A second source said: “Yes, he is old-school and can rub people up the wrong way but it’s always in the pursuit of great television. It’s the best-rating breakfast show in the country – it’s not supposed to be a walk in the park. Some – Naga included – need to understand this. It feels like it’s a case of presenter power turfing out a brilliant journalist.”

Co-host Stayt is also said to have a strained relationship with Frediani.

Lauren Lyle reprises her role as Karen Pirie in the second season of the hit ITV show

Karen Pirie’s second season is packed with intense drama and explosive bombshells – but things were just as intense behind the scenes. Series creator Emer Kenny juggled triple duties as writer, executive producer and cast member as Karen’s best friend River… while also being a new mum.

“Filming was hectic,” she says, “My baby was 12 weeks old when I started writing the season and he was 18 months old when we were shooting. He came to Glasgow with me for three months.”

Emer had a secret weapon, but it wasn’t her husband, presenter Rick Edwards. “I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my mum,” she says. “My husband was away working in Germany at the Euros because he’s a presenter, so I had my mum with me at all times.”

Kylie Minogue helped too, making a daunting experience a delight: “Kylie has her own brand of rose that we drank the whole way through. It was absolutely crazy but I never feel more alive than when we’re making stuff. It just feels thrilling.”

Lauren Lyle returns to the ITV crime drama as the sharp, scrappy Scottish detective in the second season of Karen Pirie, and DI Karen’s ready to ruffle a few feathers.

Freshly promoted – albeit reluctantly – she’s still got everything to prove. “She’s determined to prove herself,” Lauren says. “Even though she’s been promoted, she’s still doubted.

It’s a reluctant promotion. Where her boss says, ‘You’re difficult but you’re great so you deserve it.’ That’s what drives her. There’s a general frustration with men being in her way and having to listen to them.”

The TV adaptation of Val McDermid’s best-selling novel series was a hit during its first season. So it’s no surprise that Emer also felt the pressure.

“It was a little daunting,” she says, “Season one was my first time writing a show. Coming back, you really hope you can match the energy and bring another good story. So I was a little daunted but the book has a really exciting story.”

Based on A Darker Domain, the second novel in the Karen Pirie series, the new season dives into a case that’s haunted the nation for decades: the 1984 disappearance of heiress Catriona Grant and her toddler son, Adam.

“She’s kidnapped at gunpoint, and then a ransom note arrives at her family home with a polaroid of her, and she is never seen again,” teases Emer. “There’s never a handover. No other ransom note was received.” Until now.

When a body is found in a remote quarry, it blows the case wide open. But it’s not Catriona. “It’s a man,” says Emer, “But her car key is in his pocket.”

As the investigation unfolds, so do the secrets – including Catriona’s steamy, hidden affair with Mick, played by The Last Kingdom’s Mark Rowley.

“Julia (Brown) and Mark were amazing together,” Emer says, “When I got their auditions in, I knew it would work. It was really important that their love story felt romantic and real.”

But Catriona isn’t the only one getting her heart tangled this season. Karen’s own love life heats up with DS Phil Parhatka, played by Zach Wyatt, but she’s keeping it strictly under wraps.

“Karen’s under the impression a woman can only have one of the other – a career or a home life,” Lauren says. “Phil’s a good, smart man who’s willing to support her, but Karen thinks she has to choose her career to keep getting ahead. Her career gives her a sense of worth, but it can damage her love life.”

But the cold case earns her more attention and Karen struggles to keep the balance. “No one at work knows they’re together and she wants to keep it that way,” Emer says. “But there’s a whole new level of public interest. This is an even bigger case than the first one so she has a lot of eyes on her.”

If the stakes are higher, the humour’s sharper too – something inspired by Miss Congeniality. “Lauren and I always talk about Sandra Bullock’s character in that film as a big touchstone. We love her humour and her no-nonsense personality,” Emer says.

Other icons helped shape Karen’s DNA: Helen Mirren’s steely Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect, Kate Winslet’s bruised brilliance in Mare of Easttown and Toni Collette’s grit in Unbelievable.

Season two took the cast from gritty Glasgow streets to the sun-drenched chaos of Malta. “We had to move the shoot to September because it was too hot in Malta to shoot,” Emer remembers.

“We had tons of running scenes through the streets of Malta in 40 degree heat. But I think they loved it. I think they loved having their inner James Bond moments.”

Audiences clearly love it too and with eight novels in the series (and counting), there’s no shortage of source material. “There is potential for another season and ITV are really supportive,” Emer says. “It just depends on whether the audience wants more.” But for now, Karen is here to stay – and she’s fiercer than ever.

Simon Cowell is reportedly set to front new TV talent shows to find the next big girl and boy bands.

The music mogul is already thought to have wrapped filming on a new Netflix show called Simon Cowell: The Next Act, which will follow the 65-year-old record producer as he tries to find “the next global boy band sensation”.

In the past he has helped launch the careers of huge boy bands like One Direction and Westlife and is hoping to replicate this success again in 2025. The six episode series will air on the streaming giant in December, though it doesn’t have a confirmed date yet.

And it’s reported Simon will follow this up with another brand new talent show – this time to find the next big girl band. While on The X Factor, he catapulted Little Mix to fame and is said to be hoping to find the next budding female pop stars to turn into a global success.

A source told The Sun: “There’s a huge amount of excitement around the boyband search show dropping on Netflix, which is expected to drop later this year. So it makes sense to consider a sequel with a similar concept but looking for the female equivalent.

“And if anyone can do it, it’s Simon. After all, through One Direction and Little Mix, he helped deliver two of the biggest pop acts of the last two decades.”

The follow up is not thought to have been commissioned just yet, as Netflix is said to be unlikely to seal the deal on a second series before the first has aired later this year. But it is thought that Simon has it in the bag. The Mirror has approached Simon’s reps for comment.

It comes after Simon recently revealed why he wears rose-tinted glasses on set – and it isn’t a fashion statement. The Britain’s Got Talent judge shared: “I just found out according to the internet, I have a ‘mystery illness.”

He told fans on Instagram: “For anyone concerned, I missed two auditions at the end of one day, two weeks ago, because I do get migraines after long days in the filming lights. PS. This is why I wear these glasses!” So let’s hope Simon didn’t have to endure too many bright lights filming his latest TV show.

Headaches and migraines are frequently mixed up, but migraines specifically describe intense, pulsating pain often concentrated on one side. Typically, this pain can persist anywhere from two hours up to three days.

Some people endure migraines multiple times a week, whereas others encounter them less often. Further symptoms may include fatigue, food cravings, mood swings, and increased urination, although these tend to decrease in severity with age. The exact cause of migraines remains uncertain, but known triggers include anxiety, menstruation, unhealthy eating habits, and excessive caffeine intake.

TV Doctor Dawn Harper explained: “Migraines classically are one-sided headaches often associated with nausea, quite often actually make you sick. Usually, people feel they have to just lie down in a darkened room.

“They don’t like the lights and they feel, they really are severe headaches, which last for several hours. And then some poor folk will last for two or three days. A migraine can be very frightening.”

BBC star Richard Osman has broken his silence on John Torode’s MasterChef exit, claiming that he was given the option to stay on the show by the BBC under one condition. Earlier this week, John Torode was fired from MasterChef after an allegation of him using “an extremely offensive rac1st term” was upheld.

The TV presenter said in a statement that he had “no recollection” of it happening and that he only found out that his contract had been terminated after the BBC and production company Banijay put out the news. Now, Richard Osman – who was a creative director at Banijay’s Endemol Shine – has shared his insight into the situation, claiming that the show had asked the TV presenter to do a training course and take a year off from the show after the allegation was upheld.

Speaking on his podcast, The Rest is Entertainment, Richard explained: “They took John Torode aside, this was my understanding of the whole situation, and said: ‘We believe that this happened. We believe that you used this language.’ He denied it.

“They said to him – whether this was the BBC or Banijay – they said to him, ‘We will accept if you want to take a year off, you have to do a mandatory training course to understand and accept that this is not something we particularly want in our workplace.’

“That was denied. He said, ‘Of course I’m not going to do that. I didn’t do this in the first place anyway so why would I ever do this?’”

He added that the show then decided to let John go. “John Torode said, ‘The first I knew about it was I read it in the papers.’ And my understanding is that’s not true – the first thing he knew about it was when he was told it,” Richard added.

Richard went onto claim that while John had claimed that the BBC asked him to resign and blame his mental health, the “only conversation” had was asking him to do a training course.

Richard explained: “The only conversation was, ‘We believe this happened. We will give you a second chance, a lifeline, which is you take a year, you take a series off, you go and do something, talk to people who maybe persuade you that this is not the way to act in a certain workplace.’ And he said that he was not prepared to do that.”

Richard later alleged that there were further claims that weren’t upheld. “And by the way, there’s all sorts of things that weren’t upheld because they couldn’t say for certain they believed it happened. But, you know, on this particular occasion, it’s not woke gone mad,” Richard said.

“You know, he used, I think, probably the worst rac1al sl::r there is. And they found that to be substantively true. They found evidence that they were happy with — that that was true.

“He is saying, ‘I definitely didn’t do it. I certainly can’t remember it,’ but that one was upheld.”

The Mirror has reached out to John Torode’s representation for comment. Banijay declined to comment.

John Torode is now planning to take legal action against the BBC over his sacking, a source told The Mirror yesterday. “He wants to pursue them for unfair dismissal. He’s telling people there is no proof of his supposed comment. It was not in a work capacity, it was just hearsay. John is determined to clear his name,” they said.

UNBELIEVABLE: John Torode RETURNS to TV with a SH0CKING ATTITUDE that leaves viewers baffled!

TV chef John Torode has appeared on television for the first time since he was sacked from BBC’s MasterChef.

John, 59, was axed from the BBC broadcast show MasterChef earlier this week after he named himself as “one of the two individuals against whom an allegation has been upheld” during an investigation production company Banijay requested law firm Lewis Silkin undertake – which looked into allegations of misconduct surrounding John’s co-host Gregg Wallace.

The former MasterChef presenter, who had been working on the show for 20 years before his sacking, denied the upheld allegation. He said in a statement: “I have absolutely no recollection of any of this, and I do not believe that it happened. However, I want to be clear that I’ve always had the view that any rac1al language is wholly unacceptable in any environment. I’m shocked and saddened by the allegation as I would never wish to cause anyone any offence.”

It was later announced that John had been sacked from MasterChef, and he later released another statement to react to the news. However, since the two statements, he has remained silent on the matter – while it’s been reported he’s set to take legal action against the BBC over his sacking.

Now John and his wife Lisa have appeared on TV for the first time since the scandal broke. Opening the show after the credits rolled, Lisa was heard saying: “Hi there, we are so happy to see you in our weekend kitchen.”

John then added: “We’re gonna make your day even happier. How do you like the sound of stunning but simple recipes with just homemade ingredients.”

The couple have appeared on their shared ITV show, John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen, which has kicked off on ITV1 today at 11.40am. A source close to ITV confirmed to the Mirror earlier this week their schedules ‘remain unchanged’ despite John’s sacking from MasterChef.

On the programme, the married couple are making four dishes with five ingredients, which includes a garlic and rosemary focaccia, pink spaghetti, chicken and peanut butter scissor-cut noodles followed by banana doughnuts.

In an exclusive interview with the Mirror, Lisa shed light on how the pair balance work and their six year long marriage. She said: “We have so much to do separately, and we film about 10 episodes of our show in nine days, so it’s not really that much time together!”

The couple, who met on This Morning in the 1990s before Lisa won Celebrity Masterchef in 2010, didn’t initially become romantic – until John made self-confessed ‘cowardly’ move to ask her out.

The pair fell in love and married in 2019, and were given their joint cooking show in 2019. John and Lisa continued to put on a united front following the accusations around John’s co-host Gregg Wallace’s misconduct on MasterChef, which sparked production company Banijay to commission an independent investigation.

John and Lisa appeared on their show last week, with John breaking his social media silence for the first time since Gregg’s sacking was announced – posting a video to promote his show with wife Lisa as well as a video recipe he had created.

Days later, it was announced that the investigation by Lewis Silkin had upheld 45 allegations made against Gregg, while two claims implicating others were also upheld. John Torode later came forward as the subject of the allegation made involving rac1st remarks. He denied any recollection of the events and said they didn’t take place.

It was later announced John was fired from MasterChef after working on the programme for 20 years.

SH0CKING SCENE: That COAT Reveals Emmerdale’s Next BIG D3ATH SECRET!

Fans of Emmerdale fear an autumn or winter death has been confirmed
Fans of Emmerdale fear an autumn or winter d3ath has been confirmed (Image: ITV/EMMERDALE)

Fans of Emmerdale fear an autumn or winter d3ath has been confirmed by a worrying scene on the ITV soap.

Just last week we saw Cain Dingle’s flashforward scenes from December appear to finally play out. But some inconsistencies within the past and present day scenes left fans convinced a twist was on the cards.

In fact, some viewers now believe Cain’s flashforward, initially shown in the New Year episodes, has yet to air after all. It was assumed the scene would be the funeral of his tragic son Nate Robinson, who was kled off in a major twist.

At the time of the flashforward, filmed last winter, we did not know Nate was d3ad so fans were left guessing whose funeral it was. Nate’s body was found a few months ago and his funeral took place last Thursday on the ITV soap.

Coronation Street sad exit twist ‘sealed’ with character’s final storyline underway

Emmerdale ‘lets slip’ how kler John gets found out – and it’ll happen very soon

In the episode we saw Cain at his son’s grave, mourning the loss of Nate with Tracy Robinson soon joining Cain. This appeared to be the flashforward finally playing out, looking very similiar.

The only thing is there were some differences including Cain’s facial expression, the fact he was wearing a big coat in the first clip and not in the latest one, and even the position of the graves and the flowers there were different. Tracy also didn’t feature in the first scene.

Emmerdale viewers believe there's another shocking death on the cards for the Dingles

Now this can all be put down to continuity errors or even the fact that the scenes were filmed in different seasons, and things were being kept secret. The flashforwards would have been filmed around November time, when it was autumn/winter and very cold.

This would explain the coat, and the darker sky and the frost on the trees. We didn’t know Nate was d3ad then too, so they would never have included things like the “daddy” flowers.

The whole scene wouldn’t match identically surely too, as the former scene was filmed specifically for the flashforward countdown before the actual scene aired last week. But some fans are convinced that the differences between the scenes prove there’s another d3ath and a funeral on the cards.

Wondering if another scene will see Cain mourn later this year, they think there will be another scene of him in a coat mourning someone that isn’t Nate. Fans are now speculating Cain’s granddaughter Sarah Sugden could sadly pass away amid her recent health battle, while another prediction is the d3ath of Charity Dingle, the mother of Cain’s daughter Debbie.

Taking to X, one fan said: “I think it’s Sarah’s,” as another said: “I still think Sarah and I think it will be around Christmas time.” A third fan posted: “Not Nate’s grave, I think it will be Sarah’s.”

A further post read: “I’m becoming more and more convinced it’s Charity or Sarah’s grave.” One fan said: “The grave we saw Cain crying over wasn’t Nate’s. I wonder who it is I’m dying to know now. Unless he goes back to the grave and cries on his own then.”

It was the coat that sparked the most concern, with one writing: “He’s got a coat on in the flash forward… gonna be a autumn/winter episode.” Another agreed: “In the flash forward Cain had a thick coat on when he was stood at the grave like it was cold weather he didn’t have a thick coat on at Nate’s.”

The comments kept on coming with a tweet reading: “The two scenes are different seasons so have a feeling it be towards Christmas that we see this as there frost on the flash forward scene. The one we just saw is in summer.” Other fans were sure it was Nate’s though, putting the differences down to continuity or the time of year of filming.

But Ulrika pointed out that it’s tiresome people constantly judge a women’s appearance.

She said in her post alongside a selfie: ‘I feel I need to address something. I don’t get a lot of nasty comments – or if I do, I don’t see them or send people love in response.

‘But a couple of weeks ago I took part in a fab podcast @untapped.podcast to discuss my sobriety with the smart @spencermatthews.

    Seen in the year 2000

‘I wore no make-up. Partly because I kinda forgot that a project for the ears is nowadays also a feast for the eyes. But as someone who has had to wear heavy make-up on screen from 5am for years, I’m not a fan.

‘Most crucially tho, since childhood I’ve suffered from eczema. On my body – the creases of my arms and legs – on my face – eyes and lips. Make-up has always been the enemy because it’s been agony to wear.

‘There were a lot of positive comments about the WORDS I said on the podcast. But a considerable amount about my tanned appearance.

‘AND how OLD I look. In a few weeks I will be 58. I will never look like the fresh 21yr old that used to greet you first thing in the morning by the weather board.

‘I’m not ashamed to say that I am a sun worshipper and will no doubt pay the price for that. But UV lamps and salt baths, astringent solutions and creams were a feature of my life since I was a small child. I have uneven pigmentation doubtlessly not helped by ageing. I sometimes use filters in my pics because it’s easier than foundation and less painful.

‘I work tirelessly in my garden year round and often in the sun. I rarely sunbathe any more. Haven’t had a sun bed for 6 months – which I do occasionally in winter months. Not ashamed.

‘I have not had a holiday – of any kind – since 2018. That’s 7yrs. So, I understand that an over-tanned, imperfect and AGEING face offends you. But try to listen to the words rather than constantly judge women’s appearance. You might learn something. And making people feel s**t doesn’t make you a hero.’

‘But of course all your inhibitions go when you’ve had a drink, so s3x becomes easier to sort of facilitate or bring about, or participate in, but the enjoyment side of things is very different when you’re sober.

‘So that’s been quite interesting too.

‘I would never have had a date without having one drink. That’s the lubricant. That’s the social lubricant you just need to ease yourself into a date.’

She continued ‘not having a drink and going on a date, it’s hard – it’s really hard because people are not as attractive,’ before adding about herself after drink ‘you just become a little bit more available I guess – it is easier.’

The blonde beauty said that after struggling on the first anniversary of her sobriety last month, she’s now confident it will continue for good.

She said: ‘I really struggled around the anniversary of my sobriety, because everyone was like ‘Well done’. This is like the rest of my life.

‘I believe that I will never drink again.’

Ulrika thinks she might possibly be able to have just one drink now and not return to her bad ways, but she does not intend taking the risk of that not being the case.

She said: ‘I do not want to take the risk.

‘There’s every chance that I could have a glass of wine today but then when the shit hits the fan again is that going to be my default setting that I go back to that.

‘At the moment, the way I feel now just over a year on, is the very thought of drinking rum or something because something has gone bad makes me feel sick. I don’t want to.

‘But at the beginning when I’d go out for a Sunday lunch, a roast of whatever, and people are sitting there with their glasses of red, I’d be ‘that would be so nice’.

‘So my belief is that this is forever.

‘I couldn’t think like that at the beginning.

‘At the beginning you’re going 24 hours, 48 hours, I’ve done a week, I’ve done a month. ‘That’s why I think coming up to a year was a bit disappointing – because it was like ‘this goes on and bloody on, this sobriety’.’

And Ulrika says as well as not being drunk her whole opinion of herself and her life has now changed.

She said: ‘What a massive change it’s made for me as a person, as a being. My mindset, my approach has completely changed.

‘I thought I wasn’t very good at life, I wasn’t cut out for it, and I was just a pretty average to rubbish person.

‘I’m tapping maybe into the person that was there, that I didn’t think existed.

‘I thought I was shit. My opinion of myself was never very high. More in a self-deprecating way.

‘I always felt below, and I don’t feel that any more.

‘I didn’t think I’d get to this age. My dad died very suddenly when he was 53. Pensions and all that I was ‘don’t worry about that, I’ll be dead before then’. I always say that to the kids and they’d say ‘Mum, stop saying that’, ‘I definitely won’t be here’.

‘And now suddenly finding a new desire to live and finding out new things about myself and what I’m capable of and my strengths.

‘I still want to have a lot of s3x, and I want to have a lot of fun. The kids can wipe their own arses now so I can be free to do my own thing.

‘And now wanting to catch up on the years of negative thinking that I lost, of sort of having a negative view of myself.

‘I was also really f***ing angry when I was drinking. I was angry about everything. I was angry about what was happening to me, what someone was trying to do in terms of my life, that I was trying to find a solution to

‘You look at other people’s lives and think ‘f**k you with your perfect life’, and ‘f**k my life’.

‘Now I start the morning with a gratitude list and it changes the whole face of everything.

‘I actually send it to a person who I know.

‘You always find something and having done that you’re just like ‘You know what…’ – whereas before I might have started the day ‘Oh my God, look at the bloody brush dropped on the floor’.’

Ulrika, who said she has had therapy on and off for 30 years, said she might have been able to stop drinking temporarily in the past, but it would not have lasted – because she had to reach a stage first where she was also more content with herself and understood her behaviour.

She said: ‘I could definitely stop drinking, but would I be able to keep off that without learning about myself, like cleansing myself emotionally – learning about why I’m doing things

‘I think that that, in tandem with giving up the drink, has been crucial for me.

‘My behaviour has changed so much, but I’ve found this inner peace.’

Ulrika said regularly meeting with others in her situation had helped her achieve that.

She said: ‘I rely on a support group and I probably do about three meetings a week. ‘Sometimes I go to one and do a couple online.

‘I’ve been quite religious about attending them. Christmas Day I attended a meeting, Easter Sunday, just to get away from people who were drunk.’

The mum of four children, Cameron, 30, Bo 25, Martha, 20, and Malcolm, 17, added: ‘For me now sobriety is my priority, even though I used to say ‘Oh my children are my priority’.

‘Without my sobriety I can’t be there for my children, or something awful might happen, or whatever else.’

And now Mick has been sent to prison for mrd3ring Craig Tinker earlier this year, he’s confirmed his time on the show is over.

Commenting to a fan who said: “I swear to god that better be Mick’s last scene. #Corrie,” the actor replied: “Affirmative. Loved my time on the cobbles!”

The actor’s final scenes played out after a failed prison break that saw Mick banged up for good.

In Wednesday’s episode he made one final appearance from prison to speak to son Brody.

Brody told his dad he would get the girls and they’d move to be near whatever prison he ended up.

But in a chilling scene, Mick turned on Brody and disowned him.

“You finished? Because I’ll be honest lad, all I hear is a lot of whining. You seriously think I want to see you again after all of this?

“And don’t you dad me. Don’t you dare call me that ever again. Ever again, do you hear me? I’m not your dad and I never was.

“You think I want to see you? Have you come visit me? Don’t make me laugh. You or the girls. Or your mum. Any of you.

“But especially you Brody because the others, at least they’re family but you are nothing to me.

“The one good thing to come from this is not having you as a son anymore. You’re his, and that disgusts me. You disgust me and I…”

Mick put the phone down, hid it under his bed as the guards opened the door to him.

Head in his hands, that was Mick’s final appearance on Coronation Street.

GB News – Heated Clash between Tom Harwood and Richard Tice leaves UK Viewers on Edge about Nation’s Future!

GB News presenter Tom Harwood grilled  Reform UK’s Richard Tice on his immigration stance after Nigel Farage said he wanted to see a “freeze” on non-essential immigration. The Reform party leader said he would announce the cap “in four years’ time” after he was pressed about his manifesto pledge.

The rise of the populist rightwing party is causing growing concerns in the Labour high command and among the many Labour MPs who hold seats where Reform came a close second at last summer’s general election. To get an alternative view on the political party’s latest immigration pledge, Tom and his co-star Emily Carver welcomed politician Richard Tice onto the show. It didn’t take long before the 28-year-old broadcaster erupted into a heated debate with the MP over his thoughts on the matter.

Tom swiftly questioned the need for a complete “freeze” on immigration, and how ruthless this proposed rule would be. He asked: “Are you really saying that a trillion dollar plus company like Apple can’t bring in a senior engineer under your system?”

Richard argued: “It’s costing billions of pounds and it’s out of control we’ve got to sort it out.” Tom pushed: “Wouldn’t a salary threshold just fix this though? Why is there a freeze on everything?

“Are you really, really saying that a giant tech company can’t bring in someone on a million plus a year under your freeze?”

It was at this point that Tice explained that it wasn’t a complete freeze on immigration, but rather a selective few who would be allowed to enter the country.

He explained: “No, no, no. Literally, Nigel [Farage] said and we’ve said: ‘Smart immigration, highly skilled, highly qualified [people] such as doctors, such as engineers, that’s fine’.”

Tom quickly countered: “But that’s not a freeze if you’re bringing in some people” to which he replied: “That’s called smart immigration as opposed to what we’ve got at the moment which is completely out of control.”

The broadcaster pressed: “Well, Richard, now you’ve confused me. Is this a freeze or is this smart immigration?” Tice explained: “It’s both, and that’s what the British people want, they are furious with what’s going on at the moment.

“They want a complete pause so we can work out: What are the true numbers? What is really going on illegally? And what is really going on legally?

“As we sit here today and the lessons we’ve learnt this week, frankly none of us know the reality, and until we know the reality, we’ve got to get to grips with it.”

Tom then clarified: “So the freeze is for a time-limited period and then you switch to this new system of smart immigration.” It was at this point that Tice argued that this “new system” has been in the works for two years.

Fans were divided about the politician’s controversial opinions (Image: GB News)

He went on: “Well you say new Tom, we’ve been talking about this for literally about, well for two years we have talked about smart immigration. There’s nothing smart about it.”

Emily interjected, arguing: “It’s changed a bit Richard, it’s changed from net zero which would mean people still coming in and then it’s moved to a freeze so that is a strengthening of the policy.”

It didn’t take long before fans flooded to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share their opinions online. One user fumed: “It’s selective immigration, don’t call it a freeze or smart. Both are BS” as another agreed: “I would not trust Tice to hold my umbrella! [face palm emoji].”

Meanwhile, others agreed with the politician, with one posting: “About bloody time, all immigration to stop for 5 years only professionals in. And deport all illegals. End of.”

Another echoed: “And that is why @reformparty_uk, @TiceRichard aren’t the answer, we don’t need a ‘pause’ we need a massive reversal. Millions must be removed, millions more encouraged to follow. No more soft touch.”
