Football fans are reacting strongly to a bold trade proposal by Fox Sports 1 personality Craig Carton involving San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.
The 2022 Mr. Irrelevant is eligible for a contract extension after completing the third year of his four-year rookie contract. However, many fans are skeptical that the 49ers will pay Purdy the big money, given Kyle Shanahan’s quarterback-friendly system and GM John Lynch’s plans to rebuild, especially after saying goodbye to several big-name veterans.
During an episode of FS1’s Breakfast Ball, Carton proposed a blockbuster trade scenario that would send Purdy to the New York Giants in exchange for their next three first-round picks, including the No. 3 selection in 2025. Carton then suggested that the 49ers sign veteran Aaron Rodgers, who grew up a San Francisco fan. Rodgers remains a free agent after visits with the Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers, making this trade proposal all the more intriguing — though it certainly has fans divided.
Football fans are teeing off on Fox Sports 1 personality Craig Carton over his blockbuster trade proposal involving San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.
The 2022 Mr. Irrelevant is eligible for a contract extension after completing the third of a four-year rookie contract. But some fans are skeptical that the 49ers will pay Purdy that money, given Kyle Shanahan’s quarterback-friendly system and the fact GM John Lynch looks ready to rebuild after bidding farewell to plenty of big-name veterans.

Let’s just say that social media isn’t at all backing Carton’s trade proposal involving Purdy.
“Giants laugh and then fart on the phone,” one fan wrote.
“Well 60 million for Purdy is a scam,” quipped another.
“In what world would this guy think the giants would agree to such a thing,” asked a fan.
“Even Dave Gettleman wouldn’t make such an idiotic trade,” said another.
“Why is he on tv,” a fan asked.
“Why do you listen to this quack ?,” asked another user.
The 49ers have bid farewell to impact players like Deebo Samuel, Jordan Mason, Aaron Banks, Leonard Floyd, Javon Hargrave, Charvarius Ward and Talanoa Hufanga so far this offseason. But there’s no indication now that they’re looking to trade Purdy.
And if the 49ers were to shop Purdy? Believe us, nobody is giving up three first-round picks for him unless San Francisco were to give up multiple first-rounders as part of the return.

It’s hard to come up with a fair price tag for Purdy on a new deal. On one hand, he’s 23-13-0 as a starter with 64 touchdowns and just 27 interceptions, not to mention he was a couple of plays away from leading the 49ers to a Super Bowl 58 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
But Purdy has only had one good full season as a starter, and he’s not the first QB to succeed in Shanahan’s offense. So San Fran’s best bet is to make Purdy “prove it” in 2025 and see if he’s really deserving of a new deal.
