A third added: “A cinematic masterpiece. A fantastic documentary following the ambulance service. Yet another of the BBCs great documentaries.”

A fourth commented: “This tv show is a masterpiece.” They later added: “There is no other program which makes me as emotional as this one.

“It’s often overwhelming to see what’s happening around us everyday. Every episode gives me multiple moments of tears. The people who try to save us everyday are the real heroes who deserve much more appreciation than we give them.”

Tonight’s instalment will see the first episode of series 16, which will also be available to stream on BBC iPlayer shortly after broadcast.

Viewers will witness a category 1 patient being left waiting for help after a major road is closed as well as police being called for emergency back up when one patient becomes physically abusive.

A BBC synopsis reveals: “In control, the pressure of the night shift is mounting for Abi and her team of 23 call handlers, who are faced with a persistent and abusive 999 caller blocking the lines for those genuinely in need of help.”

It adds: “The episode demonstrates a different side to the ambulance service as they deal with a dark and difficult night. Crews on the ground and in control face hostility as they do their best to care for the most vulnerable patients, who have nowhere left to turn in the depths of the night.”
