Colin Firth’s ex-wife, fashion campaigner Livia Giuggioli, has handed back her MBE, accusing King Charles of appeasing Donald Trump.
Last week, Donald Trump made his historic second state visit to the UK. While there were a few awkward moments, it seemingly was quite a smooth visit.
But it seems Livia wasn’t happy with the way King Charles acted when Donald Trump was over. She felt that she couldn’t keep her MBE as a result.

‘A great gentleman, a great King’
Colin Firth ex-wife slams King Charles for Donald Trump visit
Livia has handed back her MBE in a slam against the royal family, as she accuses them of appeasing Donald Trump during his visit.
The 56-year-old, who was the wife of Colin Firth for 22 years, until they split in 2019, referred to Donald Trump as a “horrible excuse of a human” while handing back her medal.
She said on her Instagram that King Charles and state officials put on a “frightening and cowardly display of appeasing someone who stands for the obliteration of the natural world and the most vulnerable people on earth”.
Livia added: “Because I can’t reconcile those two positions, I have shredded my honour and I am returning it to sender.
“I know so many honourable, decent British people who will be unable to reconcile their deeply held values of fairness and justice with the grotesque pantomime we witnessed.”
She concluded by emphasising that “by taking a stand” she can make her feelings known.

What did Livia get her MBE for?
Livia, ex-wife of Colin Firth, got her MBE way back in 2019 for her campaign to make the fashion supply chain a fairer place to work worldwide.
She held a “Green Carpet Challenge” throughout the 2010’s, dressing stars like Meryl Streep in ethically made clothes.
Livia went on to found her own company Eco-Age, alongside then husband Colin Firth in 2007. The company advises brands on the state of their supply chains and factories.

What happened at Trump’s second state visit?
Trump’s state visit took place last week, and throughout his time in the UK, he made headlines for his speech during the state banquet.
But throughout his two-day trip, King Charles appeared to be making jokes, and getting along with the US president.
Right after his arrival, Trump and his wife, First Lady, Melania, headed to see the ceremonial welcome.
King Charles and President Trump then carried out the military inspection, which Trump took the lead in front.
But in an amusing moment, marking the end of the inspection, the Guard of Honour captain lifted his blade. King Charles took the moment to jokingly say to Trump: “Watch the sword” before chuckling.
Royal fans seemed to love the moment between the leaders, with a user on X writing: “Charles looks genuinely happy.”
But since Livia has handed back her MBE over King Charles getting along with Trump, clearly not everyone was happy to see them bonding.
