Matt Lucas has paid an emotional tribute to his late husband Kevin McGee, almost two decades after his tragic death. Little Britain star Matt, 52, married Kevin in a civil ceremony in December 2006, though they later dissolved the civil partnership in October 2008, less than two years after tying the knot.
Devastatingly, in October 2009, Kevin committed suicide. The 32-year-old was sadly found dead at his Edinburgh home after leaving a message on Facebook that read “death is much better than life”. Police were called to his address and no suspicious circumstances were present. At the time, Matt pulled out of a West End role after learning about his ex-husband’s death.

He said: “My late husband Kevin was the funniest person I’ve ever met. Also, we had a chocolate Labrador called Milo who was hilarious. He was so stubborn.”
Matt previously paid tribute to Kevin in 2019 in a social media post marking the 10th anniversary of his death.
He said: “I loved him more than anyone I’ve ever met, and still do. He was so funny and silly and clever and kind and handsome and his smile made my heart soar.”

Matt and Kevin married at Home House, a private members’ club in London, and appeared at the reception in costume, dressed as Aladdin and Prince Charming. Their wedding was attended by celebs including Matt’s co-star David Walliams, Sir Elton John and Courtney Love.
However, in 2008 they announced their “amicable” split, with a statement from their lawyers reading: “It is with sadness that Matt and Kevin announce that their relationship has come to an end.
“They ask the press to respect their privacy at this time and to exercise restraint in any reporting of this matter.”
