Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield’s neighbours have spoken out after the music star’s sudden D.E.A.T.H today. It was announced today that the musician had d.i.e.d at the age of 63.

The Stone Roses bass player was best known for his music career where he played in Stone Roses and Primal Scream. His neighbours have now spoken about the star and what he was like away from the spotlight.

The shock D.E.A.T.H came just two years after his wife also p.a.s.sed away. It was reported that emergency services were called to a private address in Heaton Moor, Stockport which is thought to have been Mani’s address.

Mani is best known for being in Stone Roses

The MEN reported that a neighbour said: “I only saw him on occasions and would sometimes collect a parcel for him. I don’t know anybody on this street who knew him well. He just kept to himself and his family.”

No patient was taken to hospital when emergency services arrived but residents saw an ambulance outside at around 11am.

Another person who lives on the street and saw the ambulance said: “I walked past about 11am. I saw two ambulances outside. I didn’t get to ask what had happened because all the staff were inside.

“They were there for quite a while but I don’t remember what time they left. He’s always been a quiet neighbour, I didn’t know him well or interacted with him. I knew he lived quite close by but we weren’t in the same social circles.”

Announcing the sad news of his D.E.A.T.H, Mani’s family shared a post on Facebook today which read: “IT IS WITH THE HEAVIEST OF HEARTS THAT I HAVE TO ANNOUNCE THE SAD P.A.S.SING OF MY BROTHER GARY MANI MOUNFIELD. RIP RKID.”

Paying tribute Roses bandmate Ian Brown posted on X: “Rest in peace Mani x.” While Oasis frontman Liam, on tour with the band in South America said: “In total shock and absolutely devastated on hearing the news about Mani. My hero RIP RKid. LG.”

Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder posted: “RIP Mani – my heartfelt condolences to his twin boys and all of his family.” Manchester United said on X: “A Manchester music icon and a passionate, lifelong Red. Our deepest condolences go out to the loved ones of Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield.”

Just last week, Mani had announced plans for a speaking tour of the UK, beginning next September 2026 in which he would look back on pivotal career moments such as the Stone Roses’ 1990 Spike Island gig and their comeback tour in 2011.

Mani was born in November 1962 in Crumpsall an outer suburb of Manchester and went to Xaverian College in Rusholme before leaving school at the age 16. Mani then formed the band the Fireside Chaps with John Squire and Andy Couzens in Greater Manchester in the early 80s.

After several name and lineup changes the band became the Stone Roses. Mani was then part of The Stone Roses’ classic line-up alongside singer Brown, guitarist John Squire and drummer Alan ‘Reni’ Wren.
