King Charles’ Norfolk home Sandringham hit with surprise closure notice

One of King Charles’ royal residences, Sandringham, has shared that it will be closing.

The 20,000 acre estate uploaded a closure notice on social media to warn hopeful visitors.

King Charles’ Norfolk home Sandringham ‘closes’

The recent warm weather washing over the UK has let us know that summer really has begun, meaning many royal residences and stately homes open their doors to welcome more visitors than ever.

However, Sandringham, the royal’s sprawling estate tucked away in Norfolk, shared a surprise closure notice on social media.

The update was shared on Wednesday, July 2, informing guests of the closure.

The estate’s official account shared an activity calendar for the month of July which depicted the news.

It was here that they explained that they would be closed for over a week.

The first slide explained that house and gardens will be closed from “Sunday 20th July until Tuesday 27th July.”

Sandringham closure notice

Although, on the Sandringham Estate website, the information reads: “The House & Garden open 5 April – 10 October (except for closures between 20-29 July and  14-17 August.)”

Meaning the house and gardens will be closed between the twentieth and twenty-ninth of July. The house and gardens will again close on the fourteenth of August before reopening on the seventeenth of August, according to their official website.

The closure notice caption stated: “As we head into the summer holidays, there’s no better place to be than The Sandringham Estate.

“Join us this July for a host of wonderful experiences. Get ready for fantastic live bands, lots of mini golf, and the chance to explore our magnificent House and Gardens looking their very best.

“Please note, The House and Gardens will be temporarily closed from Sunday 20th to Tuesday 29th July, but the wider Estate remains open for plenty of other family-fun activities.”

Events on at Sandringham

During Sandringham’s typical schedule, the house is open from 10am with last admissions at 3pm.

The activities taking place on the large estate, despite the closure of the home and gardens, include a performance from the King’s Lynn Brass Band on July 6, Sandringham Flower Show on July 23 and Family Forest School on July 29, 30 and 31.

King Charles’ £6.3K a week holiday home

The public can now get more immersed in King Charles’ style with has a new holiday home on site, called The Folly, that he rents out.

The property was overhauled by the monarch and is now a luxurious holiday home.

Unsurprisingly, the stunning abode with a wrap-around balcony comes with a hefty price tag.

A stay at The Folly can be yours for a cool £6,300-a week to rent at peak times of year.

Although much of the estate is open to the public, there still are areas that remain totally private.

‘Secrecy’ at Sandringham

The Daily Mail’s Richard Eden has pointed out the secrecy surrounding Sandringham.

He explained: “Sandringham is one of those private estates. It’s huge. I mean there are about 700 homes in total on the estate, it’s massive.

“In Sandringham House itself because it’s a private residence we don’t know exactly how many bedrooms there are for example.”
