Betsy Swain’s real name sparked quite the conversation between Coronation Street fans on Wednesday.

The latest episode of the ITV soap revealed her real name, and it’s not Betsy. As the teenager was rushed to hospital after a devastating shooting, her worried mum Lisa Swain and stepmother Carla Connor waited for news on her condition.

Soon, amid a devastating twist for the teen, the pair were reunited with the injured character who was recovering. But eagle-eyed fans noticed something about the noticeboard by Betsy’s hospital bed that let slip some new, unknown information.

It gave away Betsy’s real, full name – and it was unexpected. Some fans weren’t keen as others loved not only the new detail, but also the name itself.

That said some viewers wondered if there was a reason for Corrie giving the detail away, and if it could be a hint over what was ahead for Betsy and Lisa. On the board, spotted by viewers, it noted her name as being Elizabeth Swain.

It was quite hard to spot, and fans have to look closely to make it out. But it does say Elizabeth Swain, and then ‘Betsy’. Viewers began sharing their thoughts online, while the name was not addressed in the scene.

Until now the name has not been shared and there’s been no real mention of Betsy not being her actual name. Fans now believe there’s more to be explored with this, including why Betsy changed her name and why she went with Betsy.

Also, why did Lisa and her late wife Becky name their daughter Elizabeth? Could there be a backstory or a family plot on the way to explore this?

One viewer posted on social media after making the discovery: “Betsy’s name actually being Elizabeth: Confirmed.” Another pointed out: “You can *just* make it out but confirmation that Betsy’s full name is Elizabeth Swain I love these small details.”

A third fan said: “Betsy aka Elizabeth,” as a fourth wrote: “Wow completely missed this lol.” A fifth viewer commented: “INTERESTING,” as another said: “OMG I didn’t notice that.”

One theory suggested it could to lead to more things being revealed about the family. The theory read: “Swain family backstory pending??? Hints getting dropped left right and centre.”

Also in the episode there were emotional scenes as Betsy realised she couldn’t feel or move her arm that had been injured in the shooting. After an operation, there were fears there could be temporary or even permanent damage to the nerves in the arm.
