The BBC has been accused of “trolling” the Duchess.

Meghan Markle has faced fresh humiliation following King Charles’ bombshell statement. On Monday (September 7), the King shared a message clarifying the status of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle following their return to the UK last month. The Sussexes sensationally stepped down as senior working royals in 2020 before relocating to Montecito in California. Despite their return, the King confirmed that no change had been made to the couple’s position.

The announcement was one of the main stories on BBC News at Six and BBC News at Ten, but the corporation made a glaring mistake when it came to the coverage as one of the banners read: “Harry and Megan.” Podcast host Dan Wootton has now taken a swipe at the BBC, suggesting either their standards have dropped “even further”, or the mistake was done deliberately.

He wrote: “Either the BBC’s standards have slipped even further these days or they are really trolling MEGHAN Markle here…”

His post on X came just hours after King Charles issued the statement via Clarence House, confirming that Harry, 41, and Meghan, 45, will remain non-working royals.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex issued a blunt statement in response, with a spokesperson of the couple saying: “We were a little surprised not to have been told about this in advance.”

The spokesperson added that the statement caught the Sussexes off guard.

However, Palace officials told the Daily Mail this assertion was “incorrect”, insisting the couple had received the letter before it was released publicly, although they were not consulted on its contents.

Harry and Meghan returned to the UK at the end of August, touching down in Birmingham via private jet. They are reportedly residing in the Cotswolds with their two children, Prince Archie, seven, and five-year-old Princess Lilibet.

However, the locals haven’t taken kindly to the arrival of the Sussexes, with one claiming they are “not welcome” in the area.

Speaking on the Dan Wootton Outspoken podcast, Emma Dunwell, who was raised in the Cotswolds, fumed: “They’re not welcome. They’re not welcome, let’s just get that straight.”

She added: “While we’re at it, can I just say, Ellen Degenerate is not welcome in the Cotswolds either! She can get lost. She can go back to California or wherever she’s come from.”
