Gogglebox fans were left gobsmacked when Jenny Newby provided an extraordinary glimpse of her husband Ray. Jenny – who marked her 70th birthday earlier this year – alongside Lee Riley, joined the adored Channel 4 show back in 2014, swiftly becoming viewer favourites.

Over the years, the Hull-based pair – who have sustained their friendship for more than 25 years – have kept audiences in stitches with their cheeky quips. Away from the programme, Lee relishes a devoted relationship with partner Steve, whilst Jenny shares her world with long-standing husband Ray. On Sunday (August 3), Lee astonished fans by sharing an extraordinary snapshot of Jenny with Ray.

Via their shared Instagram account, Lee revealed it commemorated Jenny and Ray’s 50th wedding anniversary, posting a picture of the pair from their momentous day in 1975.

His message stated: “Wishing my sidekick Jenny and Ray a happy 50th golden wedding anniversary, who gets the medal?”

Fans were gobsmacked by the image – with plenty pointing out Ray’s “epic” sideburns.

“Ray should get a medal for those sideburns alone. Epic,” proclaimed one individual.

Another concurred: “Was thinking the same.” A third observed: “Jeez them sideburns have a life of their own.”

Lee and Jenny’s friendship blossomed in 1994, when Lee met Jenny at a pub where she was the landlady. In an interview with Ireland’s Big Issue magazine, Jenny revealed: “Lee was a customer at my pub, The Crown Inn in Paull. He became a regular in 1994 and used to come in pretty much every night with his partner and we were friends from the off. We’ve been best friends ever since.”

Lee added: “I wish I’ve never gone in the pub – it cost me a fortune. When I first met her she had a perm and I can remember thinking, ‘She needs a haircut’. We were firm friends immediately.

“I don’t think we’ve ever had an argument. We’re too placid to argue. She makes me laugh too much for me to ever fall out with her.”
