Sophie Cunningham will be one of several new teammates for Caitlin Clark this upcoming WNBA season.
After six seasons with the Phoenix Mercury, Cunningham was acquired by the Indiana Fever in a four-team trade earlier this offseason. A 6-foot-1 guard, Cunningham averaged 7.7 points and 2.7 rebounds per game throughout her career in Phoenix. She joins DeWanna Bonner, Natasha Howard, Jaelyn Brown and Sydney Colson as offseason additions for the Fever, who made the playoffs in 2024 for the first time in eight years.
During her time with the Mercury, particularly last season, Cunningham made headlines for her outfits off the court in addition to her play on it. The Missouri alum went viral several times for her pregame ensembles.
“The outfits that have went really viral, my mom has actually picked them out,” Cunningham said. “It’s been really fun because now (my family) is on all the outfits. And trust me, my family is like, ‘Oh, gosh, what’s Sophie gonna wear today?’ It’s just like a running joke.”

On social media, Cunningham is not shy about showing off her fashion sense, as well as how she looks without a lot of clothing on. She often shares swimsuit photos, including some new ones from a recent promotional shoot for Yates Buick GMC.
In the pictures posted on Thursday night, Cunningham is sporting a black bathing suit, black cowboy boots and a black cowboy hat.
She’s also posing alongside a black pickup truck in the desert.
“get in loser, we’re going backroadin @yatesbuickgmc,” Cunningham captioned the post.
“And she plays basketball,” one person wrote in the comments.
“Do I play for the other team all the sudden or what did u just do to me Sophie 😵💫,” a second person added.
“Well, this is absolutely wonderful!!!” a third person said.
“Damn, I’ll say it again I’m going to miss you in Phoenix ❤️,” a fourth person chimed in.
“Beautiful photos Sophie! I’m going to miss you! Who will I shimmy with at the pink games???💕” a fifth person said.
While Cunningham is getting noticed for her swimsuit pics this offseason, she’s going to be judge on her play alongside Clark starting in May.
“Absolutely not. I think that she’s a gem,” Cunningham said of Clark last year, via USA Today. “I didn’t know her, but All-Star Weekend we kind of bantered back and forth a little bit. And she’s lovely. She has a lot of pressure on her shoulders, and I think a lot of people always have a lot to say with people they don’t even know or shoes they’ve never been in. And for me, I think she’s handling the pressure very well. I think she’s doing a lot of great things for women’s basketball, and I’m a fan. Like I would love to play with her one day, for real.”
That day will come two months from now.
