Davina McCall Reveals The Toll Her Health Ordeal Took On Husband Michael As He Addresses Their ‘Problems’

Davina McCall’s husband Michael Douglas, 52, has opened up about his mental health struggles on the couple’s joint podcast, Making the Cut. The celebrity hairstylist revealed he’d had a blood test to check his testosterone levels, which naturally drop as a man ages, after noticing he was feeling “lethargic” and “a bit low recently”. The NHS states that some men develop depression, loss of sex drive, erectile dysfunction, and other physical and emotional symptoms when they reach their late 40s to early 50s.
Michael told listeners that the difficulties of the previous year had taken a toll on him. In 2025, ITV’s Long Lost Family presenter Davina was diagnosed with breast cancer, not long after recovering from emergency surgery to remove a “very rare” brain tumour. He admitted: “The back end of last year [I] was very down, very, very low. Of course, far as to say, the lowest I’ve ever felt.”

Davina replied: “What do you think happened?” To which Michael explained: “It was a mixture of things going on. You know, I had some kind of emotional family stuff, you know, that was weighing me down a little bit. Business was quite tough last year.
“You know, I was carrying, shouldering, a lot of responsibility. We had a very tough year. Yeah, you had breast cancer.”
Davina then interjected to admit that her brain surgery had had a long-lasting impact on her memory, which was “hard” for Michael to cope with.

She added: “And also my memory was really difficult and that was very difficult. I couldn’t remember, I couldn’t remember, but it was hard on you, I know that.”

Davina asked her husband if he’d been suffering from clinical depression, but Michael clarified that he felt more like he just “had problems that needed solving”.
The Masked Singer panellist was quick to praise her other half, whom she married last December, telling him: “I really admire you,” before acknowledging that the pair had gone through a “dark” time due to her health battles, with Michael agreeing: “It was b****y heavy”.
The emotional discussion comes after Michael told The Mail on Sunday that former Big Brother host Davina, who is now cancer-free, has made plans to retire from her busy TV career in five years’ time.
He said: “We’ve got five years of hard work left in us. Then I think it’s time for us to relax and enjoy all of that hard work. Davina will be about 62 and I’ll be around 58.”
