Before officially stepping away from her role on TODAY, longtime co-anchor Hoda Kotb took a moment to pass the torch in a truly heartfelt way. As her final day on the show approached on January 10, Hoda used her gift for words to write a touching, personal poem for Craig Melvin—her chosen successor. The note, filled with warmth, encouragement, and admiration, was meant to ease Craig into his new position as co-anchor alongside Savannah Guthrie, beginning January 13.

In a prerecorded video, Hoda lovingly addressed Craig, saying, “Craig-or! It’s your first day. How does it feel?” She continued, “First of all, I’m so proud of you, and I wanted to let you know just how proud of you I am, because, first of all, you’re going to be fantastic.” Her emotional message was not only a gesture of support but also a reminder of the deep camaraderie and respect shared among the TODAY team. Hoda’s words were more than just advice—they were a warm embrace from a colleague who knows the weight and wonder of the chair Craig is about to fill.

Hoda said she would put the letter for Craig in “a secret hiding place” so he could open it on his first day as co-anchor. Savannah knew where the secret hiding spot was, according to Hoda. “So just ask her,” she said.

“Go get ‘em, Craig. You’ve got this!” Hoda concluded.
