Sir Tom Jones has thanked fans for their overwhelming support following his departure from The Voice UK, after a petition calling for the legendary singer to return passed 57,000 signatures.
The 86-year-old previously made clear that leaving the ITV talent show was not his decision, saying he had no desire to walk away from the programme.
Now, after receiving thousands of messages from disappointed viewers, Sir Tom has responded directly to the reaction.
Sharing a throwback clip of himself performing his classic hit It’s Not Unusual on The Voice, he wrote on Instagram: “It’s Not Unusual… So many heartfelt messages, comments and even petitions of support.”
He continued: “It doesn’t go unnoticed and it’s been really lovely to receive these! Thank you!”
His post attracted support from figures including current The Voice coach Kelly Rowland and Spice Girls star Melanie C, who both liked the update.
Petition for Sir Tom’s Return Passes 57,000
The reaction comes as a Change.org petition demanding Sir Tom’s reinstatement continues to gather momentum.
According to Change.org, the campaign has now attracted more than 57,000 signatures as well as thousands of messages supporting the Welsh music icon.
Sir Tom’s latest message suggests he has been closely following the extraordinary response from viewers following news of his departure.
Although he thanked fans warmly, he did not announce any change to his future on the programme.
The singer previously revealed that ITV had made the decision to remove him from his regular coaching role.
“ITV made this decision – obviously a while ago, and I was told just recently,” he said.
According to Sir Tom, the initial explanation involved financial difficulties connected with insurance.
“The reason given is because of a financial difficulty with insurance,” he explained.
Sir Tom Says He Never Wanted to Leave
Sir Tom later said he had seen reports suggesting ITV wanted to refresh the programme with a different coaching line-up.
“They now say in the press they wanted to ‘refresh’ the show, and with a new coaching line-up there wouldn’t be a chair for me,” he said.
The broadcaster reportedly offered him a significantly smaller role that would allow him to appear on the programme without being involved from the beginning.
Sir Tom admitted he was unhappy with that proposal.
“They are offering a much-reduced role where I would make an appearance but without being actually involved from the start, and I’m not thrilled about that,” he said.
His disappointment became even clearer as he reflected on the decision.
“So, the only thing I know right now, is that there’s never a good time to fire an 86-year-old who’s still pretty good at his job,” the Delilah singer added.

Despite Sir Tom’s frustration, ITV publicly thanked him for his years with The Voice UK.
The broadcaster described him as “irreplaceable” and praised the contribution he had made to both contestants and audiences.
