Deion Sanders snubs Patrick Mahomes in GOAT debate: “I’m old school. Not old fool”
Coach Prime was candid when discussing Mahomes’ close race against Brady.

Deion Sanders is very clear about who the real GOAT of the NFL is.
Deion Sanders has spoken-and he’s not riding the Patrick Mahomes hype train. At the 2025 NFL Honors gala, the Colorado Buffaloes coach and NFL Hall of Famer didn’t blink when asked to choose between Mahomes and Tom Brady in the GOAT debate.
“I’m going with Brady,” Sanders declared confidently. “I’m old school. Not old fool.”
The response, given to sports reporter Kayla Nicole-who also happens to be Travis Kelce’s ex-instantly set social media on fire. With Mahomes collecting championships at an alarming pace, many thought Sanders might give the Chiefs’ superstar some flowers. But for “Coach Prime,” longevity, dominance, and rings still reign supreme.
Brady’s résumé speaks for itself: seven Super Bowl titles, five Super Bowl MVPs, three league MVPs, and countless records that may stand the test of time.

Coach Prime is not a fan of Mahomes
Mahomes, however, isn’t far behind, boasting three Super Bowl wins and three Super Bowl MVPs in just eight seasons. The young Chiefs quarterback is already being hailed as Brady’s heir, but for Sanders, the conversation isn’t even close yet.
This isn’t the first time Sanders has been lukewarm on Mahomes. When celebrating Kansas City’s AFC Championship win, Sanders praised Travis Kelce, head coach Andy Reid, and even wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins-but left out the Chiefs’ QB.
“I got mad love for my brother, Travis Kelce, and I’m proud of all that he’s accomplished,” Sanders tweeted. “And I’m so darn happy for one of our game’s greatest receivers, DeAndre Hopkins, Coach Reid & the Chiefs. Wow, God is good.”

And that’s despite Mahomes throwing for 245 yards, one touchdown, and rushing for two more in the 32-29 thriller over Buffalo. His leadership was key in punching the Chiefs’ ticket to Super Bowl LIX, yet Sanders seemed to downplay his contributions.
Mahomes may be on his way to challenging Brady’s legacy, but if you ask Deion Sanders, he’s not there yet. And with Sanders doubling down on his pick, the GOAT debate is only getting hotter.
