Scenes yet to air lay the groundwork ahead of Wendy’s imminent exit from the village.
Reaction to the Hotten Courier’s article on Rhona (Zoe Henry) blows up – with Wendy caught in a blackmailing situation by the journalist.
Elsewhere, Wendy trades on Ella’s (Paula Lane) past to cover her own misdemeanours.
Is her life and career about to implode?
The character was first introduced as the mother of rapist Lee Posner (Kris Mochrie) and his brother Luke (Max Parker).
More recently, the nurse’s relationship with Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw) was tested when she had an affair with Dr Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson).
The Sun told how Susan had been axed after seven years and has already filmed her final scenes.
A source said: “Susan was devastated at the decision. She loves the show and loves being part of it.
“She’s really well liked in the cast but unfortunately budget cuts mean hard decisions need to be made and that resulted in Susan being one of a number of cast leaving.
“ITV is going through a cash crisis with the soaps and the money just isn’t there to pay for everyone any more.

“Ultimately if the character isn’t inspiring a lot of story from producers then there’s no space for them in the show anymore.
“There’s certainly a worry on set about who will be next to go.”
The source added: “The door is very much being left open for Susan in future and it’s hoped that one day she could return to se her grandson Harry.”
However, Susan is not the only star soon bowing out of the fictitious village.
Other imminent departures include Paula Lane, Lesley Dunlop (who plays Brenda Walker) and Roxy Shahidi (who plays Leyla Harding).
How will the character Wendy’s exit ultimately play out?
