Coronation Street fans reckon a soap icon is making their return in a shock Betsy Swain twist.
The troublemaker, played by Sydney Martin, rocked up to the cobbles last year, as the daughter of DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers). And it hasn’t taken Betsy long to find herself involved in several big moments on the soap.
Earlier this year, she was left heartbroken when her boyfriend Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) was killed. Still grieving, things went from bad to worse for Betsy when she was shot.
Fans will recall that killer Rob Donovan (Marc Bayliss) took Lisa, Tracy (Kate Ford) and Carla Connor (Alison King) hostage. The scary ordeal resulted in Betsy being shot and losing the feeling in her arm.

The injury has taken its toll on Besty, and this week she got her revenge on Tracy by stealing her flower van with Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) before accidentally crashing it.
What’s more, it was also revealed that Betsy had started regaining the feeling in her arm – but has yet to tell anyone, continuing to overplay her injury in a bid to get sympathy.

In Wednesday’s episode though (April 30) the truth came crashing down for Betsy after Carla caught her using her arm – and outed her in from her of her mum.
But now, amid Betsy causing drama for Carla and Lisa, fans reckon a former resident could be heading back to straighten her out. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one person wrote: “Betsy is really annoying me! Becoming a right madam, hopefully someone puts her right soon.”

Fans have predicted Simon’s return (Image: ITV)
Predicting the return of Carla’s former stepson Simon Barlow (Alex Bain), a second viewer declared: “Bring Simon back! He would have Carla’s back.”
A third mused: “Yesss, I’ve been thinking for a while he’s probably due a return.” A fourth also said: “She definitely needs straightening out and maybe he would be the best option for her.”
Simon, son of Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) was last seen on the cobbles in 2024 when he decided to leave the street to join his dad to work on a yacht following Peter’s own exit on Boxing Day.
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
