With the WNBA season still two months away, Caitlin Clark is taking time out of her busy schedule to show her former teammates at Iowa some love.
Iowa defeated Murray State in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday. It was such a dominant performance from the Hawkeyes that all 12 players who were available this afternoon scored, including junior forward Jada Gyamfi.
Gyamfi has developed a close connection with Clark over the past three years. And if there was any doubt about their friendship, all you have to do is check out the Iowa legend’s Instagram account.
After Iowa’s game against Murray State went final, Clark gave Gyamfi a shoutout for scoring on her birthday.
“Happy birthday Jades,” Clark wrote on Instagram. “Miss you and your hugs.”
Clark added, “BIG BDAY BUCKET TODAY!!! GIVE HER THE BALL!!!”

Gyamfi came into this Saturday’s game averaging 1.9 points per contest, so it’s pretty awesome that she was able to get in the boxscore on her birthday.
Clark will be cheering on Gyamfi and the Hawkeyes this Monday when they return to action for their second-round matchup.

Iowa is trying to make it to the Final Four for the third straight season. That’ll be tough to do considering Clark is no longer on the roster.
On the bright side, Clark will return to Carver-Hawkeye Arena this May for an exhibition between the Indiana Fever and the Brazilian national team.
“We couldn’t be more excited to play at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, and we know Iowa fans will deliver an unforgettable homecoming for Caitlin,” Fever president of basketball operations Kelly Krauskopf said. “Countless Hawkeye fans have become Fever fans, and we consider them family. That’s what will make this preseason matchup so special for us.”
In the meantime, Clark will be Iowa’s biggest cheerleader.
