Today meteorologist Al Roker is facing backlash after making a remark that some viewers found insensitive toward his co-host, Dylan Dreyer.

Dreyer, 41, took to Instagram to share an unfortunate travel mishap—her family’s luggage was lost while on vacation. Despite the setback, she remained in good spirits, posting a cheerful airport photo with her husband, Brian Fichera, and their three sons, Russell, Oliver, and Calvin.

“Family vacation! Little did we know these would be the clothes for the whole trip because our luggage is lost in Amsterdam,” she wrote. “We’re not in Amsterdam. All that work packing…”

While many friends, fans, and colleagues offered support and travel advice, Roker’s response left some followers unimpressed.

Fans Call Out Al Roker’s ‘Tone-Deaf’ Comment

Roker initially reacted with a simple, “Oh wow.” But he then followed up with a comment that sparked debate:

“We never check. Even when the kids were little.”

One follower quickly called him out, replying, “I think that was insensitive to say to your ‘friend’ who’s already having a rough time.”

Another added, “You can’t always bring everything as a carry-on, Al.”

However, many of Dreyer’s fans sided with Roker, sharing that they also prefer to travel without checking bags.

Roker’s Teasing Comments Toward His Co-Hosts Continue

This isn’t the first time Roker has made playful jabs at his colleagues. Just days before Dreyer’s trip, he jokingly called her a “cheapster” during an Instagram Live session before Today aired.

As he chatted with the crew and discussed an upcoming lottery draw, Roker turned the conversation toward his co-hosts, saying:

“We’ve got to hit Dylan up. Dylan, of course, will not have the money. While we all know Craig [Melvin] is cheap, Dylan is the secret cheapster.”

Despite the lighthearted nature of the comment, some fans questioned whether it was necessary. However, Roker later softened the moment by complimenting Dreyer’s outfit when she arrived on set, saying, “Bringing the sunshine!”
