Anita Dobson shares health update following husband Brian May’s ‘minor stroke’

Former EastEnders star Anita Dobson issued a health update on her husband Brian May during today’s edition of Good Morning Britain (Thursday, April 10).
The Queen guitarist suffered a “minor stroke” back in August.

Brian May’s ‘minor stroke’
Back in August, Sir Brian, 77, suffered a stroke. The music icon announced the news in an Instagram video a couple of weeks later.
“I’m here to bring you, first of all, some news, I think. The good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days,” he said.
“I say this because it was in some doubt because that little health hiccup happened about a week ago. What they called it was a ‘minor stroke’,” he then continued.
“All of a sudden, out of the blue, I didn’t have any control over this arm, so it was a little scary. I had the most fantastic care and attention from Frimley Hospital; blue lights flashing the lot, very exciting,” he then said.
Brian then said: “I didn’t want to say anything at the time because I didn’t want anything surrounding, you know. I really don’t want sympathy, please don’t do that because it will clutter up my inbox.
“The good news is I’m okay and doing what I’m told which is basically nothing, I’m grounded, I’m not allowed to go out, drive, get on a plane, I’m not allowed to raise the heart rate too high. But I am good.”

Today saw Anita appear on Good Morning Britain to discuss her EastEnders return and the new series of Doctor Who.
Anita made a shock cameo in the 40th anniversary of EastEnders, returning as her iconic character, Angie Watts, in a vision.
Meanwhile, Anita plays Mrs Flood, an enigmatic character with a big secret, in Doctor Who. The new series promises some big reveals for the character.
During the chat, the conversation soon turned to Anita’s husband, Brian.
“How is Sir Brian doing, we should ask, because he hadn’t been very well, had he?” Charlotte Hawkins asked.
“Thank you both for asking. I’m very happy to say he’s very well now,” Anita said.
“Back to his old self.”

Anita and Brian’s love story
Brian and Anita have been married for 25 years, having tied the knot back in 2000.
They first met at a movie premiere in Beverly Hills back in 1986 while Brian was still married to Christine Mullen. They have been together since 1986 – celebrating 39 years of their love in 2025.
In 2015, during an appearance on Loose Women, Anita spoke about being in a relationship with Brian while he was still married to Christine.
“I was the scarlet woman. I’m not proud of it,” she said at the time.
Brian also revealed that his bandmate, Freddie Mercury, told him the relationship wouldn’t last as Anita was an actress. How wrong he was!
