A crazy visual broke out on the high school basketball court and went viral on Friday, March 21.

After finding his coached Northville High School basketball team losing against La Fargeville, coach Jim Zullo went a little too aggressive. During the postgame ceremony, Zullo pulled the ponytail of player Hailey Monroe, who appeared visibly upset after the defeat.

Reports suggest that Monroe had reacted emotionally to Zullo’s instruction to shake hands with the opposing team. She was allegedly swearing at him prior to the incident, which was captured on video and quickly went viral.

However, following the incident, Zullo publicly acknowledged his unacceptable conduct in an apology. He expressed regret for his actions and offered sincere apologies to Monroe, her family, his team, and the community at Northville Central Schools.

“I deeply regret my behavior following the loss to La Fargeville Friday night in the Class D state championship game. I want to offer my sincerest apologies to Hailey and her family, our team, the good folks at Northville Central Schools and our community,” coach Zullo said as per WNYT.

After the incident spread like wildfire, the Northville Central School District stated that it was “deeply disturbed” by Zullo’s actions. The high school emphasized a commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism and respect within its programs.

While his gestures were nowhere near justifiable, whatever the outcome of a high school game, the high school terminated him almost immediately.

The incident occurred after Northville High School’s basketball team lost in the state championship game. During the viral moment captured on video, an upset Hailey was seen on the sidelines when Zullo approached her and harshly pulled her ponytail.

Despite the audio not being clear, it was evident that fellow teammate Ahmya Tompkins intervened. She was appearing to tell Zullo not to act in that manner. As caught in the camera, Zullo went on to argue with Tompkins afterward.

The situation drew significant attention, leading the Hudson Valley Community College Department of Public Safety, along with law enforcement agencies, to investigate the matter. However, as of the latest reports, no charges or formal complaints filed with the Troy Police Department.
