Coleen Nolan’s brother Brian appeared on Loose Women to share an update on his battle with cancer, just months after being diagnosed with the disease
Loose Women took an emotional turn today as Coleen Nolan’s brother Brian delivered an update on his cancer, just four months after confirming his devastating diagnosis.
Brian, 70, received his prostate cancer diagnosis shortly after his sister Linda Nolan died from pneumonia in January, two decades following her initial breast cancer diagnosis.
Returning to the ITV daytime show on Tuesday (July 15), Brian revealed he had received the all-clear following his recent operation, reports Belfast Live.
In an emotional exchange whilst seated beside his sister Coleen, he revealed he had undergone an operation known as a RALP, or a robotic-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy.
He went on: “To make a long story short, my cancer was in the prostate gland, so they offered me a radical operation, which drew the whole cancer out.”

Struggling to contain his emotions, Brian continued: “I was basically in the hospital for 18 hours and I got the all clear last Tuesday that the cancer is completely gone and my bloods are back to normal.”
Brian implored viewers to seek cancer screening as he stressed that it could ‘save your life’.
He elaborated: “With my whole journey and coming here – what I’m trying to get over to people is we need to get checked because this can happen to anybody. I’m not special, I was very lucky in fact.
“At the moment we have no screening procedures for prostate cancer in the country. Thirteen thousand men are dying for no reason because they haven’t been told about it and there is no regular screening.”
Brian continued: “There is nothing for prostate cancer and in the meetings I’ve had there is no plans to have it as of yet.

“But there is one good thing I heard today, that there is some research going on, but that takes time and no one waits around for cancer. I would say to all guys, please please please go and get tested because it will save your lives.”
Brian had previously shared the devastating moment he learnt of his cancer diagnosis. After experiencing bladder difficulties, he underwent two blood tests before receiving confirmation of his condition.
Following his biopsy, he recalled: “‘I’ve got cancer’. The doctor confirmed ‘yes you’ve got cancer.’ It’s just something in your life you really don’t want to hear. I was completely speechless. My wife was with me, she broke down a little bit.”
Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX
