VIEWERS STUNNED: After Naga Munchetty’s ‘Creepy’ CLAIM, Sir David Jason sparks BACKLASH on BBC Breakfast
Sir David Jason has been hit with backlash after his “creepy” interaction with BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty. The Only Fools and Horses legend, 85, appeared on the show to promote his latest tour and share anecdotes about his comedy career so far – but by the end, he had started to “flirt” with Naga and viewers were “uncomfortable”.
While trying to recall a story he was telling, Sir David trailed off, only for Charlie Stayt to prod him: “Come back to the anecdote, what was it you were going to say? A little story?” Seemingly out of the blue, Sir David remained fixated on Naga, telling Charlie: “Yes I was, but… you… it’s Naga, I can’t resist, [I can’t] take my eyes off her.”
Rather awkwardly, Charlie tried to change the subject, forging ahead: “Erm, people are in, obviously, for an absolute treat. You go right back to the Second World War, telling stories, it’s going to be an absolute treat for people and they’ll be finding out things about you that they don’t know.”
David agreed: “That’s really true, so I’m not going to give anything away because I’ve been told not to.” While Charlie said: “Quite right!” Naga wondered: “Do you always do as you’re told?”
Batting his eyelashes at her, David replied: “Naga please! Yes, I will. For certain people,” before he joked: “Not you, Charlie.”
Charlie responded: “Understood. I can tell you everyone in the place has been delighted by your company.”
While David thanked the hosts for having him, he put on a flirty voice to say: “Thank you Naga! I’ll see you later!” – leaving her giggling.
But the segment proved controversial with viewers at home, who took to X to complain about the “creepy” segment. One tweeted: “David Jason creepy AF towards Naga.”
Somebody else said: “I enjoy David Jason’s work but I had to switch off the interview as it was so embarrassing. Well done to Naga for being dignified whilst I was watching.”
A third echoed: “He was extremely misogynistic towards and up to the end of this interview. Sickening. Naga should have called him out.”
And another said: “David Jason verging on inappropriate and forgetting himself occasionally on @BBCBreakfast. Some wonderful anecdotes though but quite sad to see.”
Others, however, sprung to his defence, with one fan writing: “Not always a fan of BBC Breakfast but what a brilliant interview with David Jason… loved the flirting and felt sorry for Charlie.”
Another said: “Absolutely brilliant reactions with the wonderful David Jason. Lovely to see. Almost blushing.”
