Carmelo Anthony Nearly Formed Superteam With LeBron James In Chicago At Peak Of Their Powers

Carmelo Anthony revealed he was close to forming a superteam with LeBron James in the Chicago Bulls. The partnership that could have reshaped the NBA‘s landscape in the late 200s. On podcast P with Paul George, Anthony detailed serious conversations he and James had about teaming up, originally envisioning a move from New York to Chicago.
Both stars were still with their original teams; Anthony was in Denver, and James was in Cleveland. While James opted for a shorter extension to preserve his free agency options, Anthony signed a five-year, $80 million deal with the Nuggets, effectively closing the door on their potential union.
“Bron and I wanted it to be New York or Chicago. Chicago was in the fold. If we find a place, let it be Chicago,” Anthony said. “We wanted it to be New York … or Chicago, Chicago was in the fold. “In my situation, I was in Denver, we were in the playoffs every year, we had 50-plus wins. We were building something in Denver, so I didn’t want to leave,” he also mentioned.
James would go on to join Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in the Miami Heat, while Anthony was later traded to the Knicks in 2011. Though he missed out on championships, Anthony carved out a Hall of Fame career.

NBA legend Tracy McGrady believes Carmelo Anthony should have won Rookie of the Year in 2004 over LeBron James. While James posted strong numbers with the Cleveland Cavaliers, McGrady pointed out that Anthony led the Nuggets to the playoffs as a rookie.

“That is a tremendous accomplishment for a rookie to come in, have that spotlight on him like that, and to get slighted on rookie of the year, I ain’t like that at all,” McGrady said. “No shade to anybody, but I thought [Melo] should have run rookie of the year.”
James and Anthony both entered the NBA in 2003. Though James won the award, many, including McGrady, still view Anthony’s rookie season as more impactful due to team success.
