David Mitchell revealed the one thing that “frustrates” him about his wife Victoria Coren Mitchell. The couple tied the knot in 2012, five years after they were introduced by comedian David Baddiel. They have since welcomed two daughters, Barbara, born in 2015 and June Violet, born in 2023. David, 51, has made no secret of the admiration he holds for his wife, admitting he was “hopelessly in love” after first meeting the Only Connect presenter.
Fast-forward several years, David suggested the success of their relationship could be because Victoria, 53, is a professional poker player. “It helps because I’ve not got into the habit of telling even small lies,” he confessed to The Guardian in 2020. The Ludwig actor admitted the couple enjoy sitting on the sofa and enjoying each other’s shows. But he explained that watching Would I Lie To You? isn’t as enjoyable as other shows.
The comedy series features two teams as they tell elaborate stories while opponents are tasked with working out whether they are telling the truth or not.
David admitted this is often a “very frustrating experience” because she can work out the lie immediately. “She’s occasionally wrong, but only one in 20 times,” he said.
Before welcoming their second daughter, David confessed fatherhood wasn’t always plain sailing.
He explained: “When she was a very small baby I found it frightening and weird. I always felt that there should have been a responsible adult around, and realising that person was me was very against my nature.”
Despite Victoria admitting she thought she’d marry David after they first met in 2007, the timing just wasn’t right as she was grieving following the death of her father.

But the love the comedian had for Victoria lingered in silence until she finally agreed to go on a date with him three years later.
“I waited three years. Isn’t that weird? Aren’t I odd? I can’t explain it other than to say I couldn’t do anything else,” he reflected in his memoir. “If only I’d known I just had to wait three years… I would gladly have suffered ten times as much.”
Gushing over his wife in his book, David penned: “She’s not only too wonderful, she’s too right for me. She’s funny, bright, sexy, nervous and confident in ways that could have been meant for me. I feel very lucky.”
He added: “I am just incredibly proud that someone like Victoria wants to be with me. She has these amazing qualities, but fundamentally, we clicked. I fell in love with her.”
