More than one million Britons have demanded a fresh vote amid growing public fury at Sir 𝘒𝘦𝘪𝘳𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘳’𝘴 Labour
One hundred days have now passed without the G0vernment setting a debate date for a petition calling for a fresh General Election.
All petitions which hit the 100,000 signature mark are considered for a parliamentary battle – and this one has surpassed one million signatures.
But the G0vernment has remained silent for 100 days on when such a debate could be brought before Parliament.
The petition reads: “We want an immediate General Election to be held.

“We think the majority need and want change.”
The Cabinet Office responded to the petition on August 11, saying: “This G0vernment was elected on a mandate of change at the July 2024 general election.
“Our full focus is on fixing the foundations, rebuilding Britain, and restoring public confidence in G0vernment.”
The highest number of signatures came from the Tory-held seat of Brentwood & Ongar, with 3,129 constituents throwing their support behind the petition.
Some 590 residents in the Prime Minister’s Holborn & St Pancras constituency also backed the calls for an immediate vote.

The calls for a fresh election come as Sir Keir Starmer’s favourability among Britons plummets to record lows.
YouGov polling reveals just under three in four Britons believe the Labour boss is doing badly as Prime Minister.
Sir Keir’s net favourability rating has sunk to -51, the lowest ever recorded by the polling company.
The survey also revealed a significant rift among Labour voters, with half now viewing him negatively.
YouGov also found that 51 per cent of Britons believe he should resign as leader of the Labour Party and allow someone else to take over – a view apparently held among some of his own Cabinet colleagues.

Reform UK’s Sarah Pochin hit out at the G0vernment’s official response to the petition in August.
She told GB News: “It’s no wonder so many people are demanding a General Election when this Labour G0vernment continues taking appalling actions.
“Their decision to cancel local elections, now coupled with their disregard for a petition signed by nearly a million citizens, suggests a troubling pattern of ignoring the electorate.
“Labour refusing to address the country’s cry for change shown through demonstrations across the country is yet another failure to take the voices of the British public seriously.”

On Wednesday night, reports emerged that Sir 𝘒𝘦𝘪𝘳𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘳’𝘴 allies had warned plotters of an alleged coup that ousting the Prime Minister would lead to a General Election.
The Mail revealed how “friends of the Prime Minister” had warned that any new leader – like the much-rumoured Wes Streeting – would “need their own mandate’ from the British public.
Labour rules require 20 per cent of the parliamentary party, or 81 MPs, to back a new candidate to launch a formal leadership challenge.
Though there are no legal requirements in place for a fresh election in order to confirm a new PM – as seen through Gordon Brown, Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak.
