The Voice UK fans have slammed a “bad decision” following Sir Tom Jones sharing a touching anecdote about his life. ITV’s Will.i.am, Kelly Rowland, Sir Tom Jones and duo Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher returned as coaches tonight, Saturday, September 19, to give hopeful singers a chance of making it the next round of The Voice UK.
But in between performances, Will had a personal question for his co-star Sir Tom as he wanted to know when he knew that he “made it”. And in true Sir Tom style, he gave a heartfelt response followed by an unexpected song, much to fans’ delight.

“It’s Not Unusual I did in 1964 so that was 61 years ago”, Tom said.”My band and myself were driving back to London and It’s Not Unusual came out on the Friday but I didn’t know until I picked up the Sunday paper in a transport cafe, and there it was, It’s Not Unusual, number 10.
“There were truck drivers there right and I was like ‘You see this!’ And they were like ‘yeah, yeah, yeah yeah!'”.”And just seeing my name at number 10 I thought ‘This is it. It was a tremendous feeling.'”.
The anecdote then sparked the studio audience to request he perform It’s Not Unusual, which Sir Tom gladly delivered, with numerous fans praising his rendition. But seeing as this will be Sir Tom’s final series of The Voice UK, many viewers flocked to X to complain.
“ITV making a very big mistake getting rid of Sir Tom Jones, idiots.”A second concurred: “To the powers that be at The Voice UK this is the legend you dropped!”

Another wrote: “Still can’t believe they fired THE Tom Jones. He’s amazing”, while a fourth added: “It was such a huge mistake axing Tom Jones.”
As someone else chimed in: “Don’t care what anyone says Sir Tom Jones has still got it! Silliest move to let this frigging legend go..shame on you producers who make stupid decisions on The Voice UK.”
Sir Tom publicly shared that he didn’t want to make his exit, although he has been offered a “reduced” part on the series.
The 86-year-old shared on social media:”The reason given is because of a financial difficulty with insurance.
“They now say in the press they wanted to ‘refresh’ the show, and with a new coaching line-up there wouldn’t be a chair for me.”
It has already been confirmed that ex Girls Aloud star Cheryl is set to join as a coach.
