Fergie was one of Andrew’s biggest supporters for decades.

Sarah Ferguson once fiercely defended Andrew Mounbatten-Windsor after he was accused of having sex with Virginia Giuffre when she was 17, making her a minor under US law. The late Ms Giuffre, who died by suicide in April 2025, brought a defamation case against Ghislaine Maxwell in 2015, alleging that she sex-trafficked her for Jeffrey Epstein when she was just 16-years-old in 2000.

Ms Giuffre claimed she was forced to have sex with Andrew, 66, three times when she was 17 – in New York, London, and the US Virgin Islands. Andrew has repeatedly denied the claims but settled a lawsuit with Ms Giuffre in 2022 without accepting any liability for an undisclosed amount.

When the accusations were made, Sarah, who was married to Andrew from 1986 to 1996, publicly defended her ex-husband, describing him as a “humongously good man.”

During an appearance on The Today Show in 2015, Fergie said: “I want to stand by him, because I know what it feels like to have salacious lies made up about you,” adding that Andrew is “a great father and humongously good man”.

“I won’t stand by and let his character be defamed to this level,” she added.

Despite supporting him for decades, it appears Fergie has now changed her mind, with reports claiming she feels her life has been ruined by standing by him.

A source told Heat World: “For years, Sarah has looked foolish standing by him, but now it’s taken on a much darker tone, and it’s truly destroying her life; she’s essentially homeless because of him, and everyone is telling Sarah she’s only hurting herself by continuing to protect him.”

However, following the release of three million more documents relating to the Epstein files at the end of January, the spotlight returned to Fergie, after emails between her and the disgraced financier were made public.

“My dear spectacular and special friend Jeffrey, you are a legend,” she described Epstein in an email after he was convicted on child sex offences.

The Justice Department emails also revealed Sarah turned to Epstein for help managing her debts while he was still behind bars for soliciting prostitution from a minor.

Sarah ceased using her duchess title last year, while Andrew, who has also lost his remaining titles, is now under investigation for misconduct in public office after being accused of leaking sensitive information to Epstein while serving as the UK’s trade envoy.
